Chapter 1104Â
Carter smiled. “Of courAs for Miles’s disappearance, what did that have to do with Sharon?Â
She had a solid alibi, airtight and undeniable.Â
While Miles’s parents accused Sharon of kidnapping their son, Sharon countered just as sharply–claiming they were the ones hiding Miles to dodge responsibility, staging this entire farce to shift the blame.Â
Carter stepped in. “According to Sharon, the Silverstone and Kalen families have been close for generations. Yet Miles stooped so low–drugging her and even attempting to film the act to blackmail her afterward.Â
“If the Silverstone family refuses to give her an explanation, then tomorrow, the entire country will see Miles’s face plastered across the headlines.Â
“I hear you’re preparing for the election, Gerard. A son with such disgraceful behavior won’t just turn public opinion against you -it’ll destroy your colleagues‘ faith in you as well. You, of all people, should understand what’s at stake.”Â
The Silverstone family had deep political roots. Scandal was poison to them. And indeed, Gerard was in the midst of gearing up for the national election.Â
If that video ever went public…Â
His facial muscles twitched uncontrollably. He knew–without a shred of doubt–that his campaign would be over.Â
Sharon was the Kalen family’s heiress, and Carter, standing at her side, was clearly no ordinary man either. This wasn’t a matter that could be brushed off easily.Â
Finally, Gerard’s composure cracked.Â
“Then tell me,” he ground out, “what will it take for you to hand over the video?”Â
He’d yielded.Â
Carter exchanged a glance with Sharon. She gave a slight nod.Â
Carter pulled out a contract and handed it over.Â
Gerard scanned the document, his expression darkening by the second. When he reached the end, he slammed the folder shut and snapped, “This is extortion!”Â
Sharon wanted to purchase a twenty–percent stake in several of the Silverstone family’s core businesses.Â
Twenty percent might not sound like much–but with Silverstone Group’s ownership already fragmented, it meant cedingÂ
actual control.Â
Carter, unruffled, replied evenly, “Gerard, we’re offering fair market value. We’re not taking advantage of you.Â
“Besides, Sharon controls several cutting–edge tech companies. If you agree to the sale, Silverstone Group could secure priority access to future collaborations. That would raise your company’s profile far more than it would diminish it.Â
“You should be aware that in its current state, Silverstone Group has little competitive edge. Between owning forty percent of a billion–dollar enterprise- or twenty percent of a hundred–billion one–any rational man knows which choice to make.”Â
Gerard fell silent.Â
Uncertainty flickered across his face, a hint of hesitation breaking through his rigid posture.Â
Deep down, he already understood what had driven his son to such disgraceful extremes–to drug Sharon, to try and force herÂ
hand.Â
1/2Â
It wasn’t just lust. It was greed.Â
The original shares she controlled were a goldmine–impossible to measure in mere currency.Â
The tech and biotech firms under her name represented the future of industry. If the Silverstone family could carve out a share of that wealth, their power would multiply–and perhaps even open the path toward a presidential bid.Â
Sharon’s gaze lingered on Carter.Â
He was a master negotiator–sharp, poised, utterly commanding. Every word struck with precision, aimed straight at the heart of his opponent.Â
It was clear he knew exactly what Gerard desired.Â
Despite the older man’s political experience and decades of influence, Carter’s calm dominance subtly pressed him into submission.Â
Sharon had rarely seen this side of him before–this cool, incisive brilliance that both fascinated and unsettled her.Â
For the first time, she realized that just as he didn’t fully understand her, she didn’t truly understand him either.Â
After a long moment of heavy silence, Gerard finally said, “Fine. We’ll sell at market price. But if the Kalen Group’s tech companies launch any promising new projects, you’ll give Silverstone Group priority access to participate.”Â
- se. We’re all on the same side. What difference does it make who takes the project? With the backing of these cutting–edge tech companies, Silverstone Group might very well rise to prominence overnight.”Â
A slight flicker passed between Sharon’s brows. She had always thought of Carter as quiet and reserved—but clearly, he could spin a vision when he wanted to.Â
His calm, persuasive words slowly dissolved Gerard’s anger. Instead, he even managed a cordial smile in Sharon’s direction.Â
“Sharon, I’ll have my assistant draft the equity transfer agreement right away. You’ll need to have the funds prepared on your end. We’ll finalize the signing in three days.”Â
Sharon returned his smile. “It’s a deal.”Â
Gerard left soon after.Â
In truth, aligning himself with Sharon’s advanced tech companies–firms influential enough to sway international markets- could only bring benefits, not harm. And since she was offering a fair market price, there was no real loss to speak of.Â
Once he was gone, Sharon’s expression tightened slightly.Â
Though Silverstone Group couldn’t compare to the Kalen Group in scale, its close ties to the Marcentine government meant that acquiring even twenty percent of its shares would require a staggering amount of capital.Â
While Sharon controlled immense resources, her liquid assets were limited.Â
Selling off her original shares to raise cash was out of the question.Â
After some thought, she decided to reach out to Ginny and John for help.Â
Ginny, though trained in the arts, had long been active in investing and stock trading. As the Blakely family heiress, she had the means, connections, and capital–and by now, she was quite the young tycoon herself.Â
When Sharon explained the situation, Ginny agreed without hesitation.Â
She did some quick calculations of her available funds. Most of her money was tied up in investments that couldn’t easily beÂ
liquidated.Â
Her voice came through the line. “I’m sorry, Sharon. I can personally free up about fifty million. If I borrow from my parents and brother, I can probably raise another fifty million. That’ll make a total of a hundred million. Will that be enough? If not, I’ll find another way.”Â
Sharon replied, “That’s more than enough. I’ll pull some additional funds from John’s side. It should cover everything.”Â
100 million was no small sum, though still not much compared to the total cost of acquiring Silverstone Group’s shares. But Sharon knew it was the maximum Ginny could reasonably offer.Â
Ginny had no idea that the company Sharon intended to buy into was Silverstone Group itself. She thought it was just a minor acquisition.Â
“Alright then,” she said warmly. “If there’s anything else you need, don’t hesitate to call me anytime.”Â
After hanging up, Sharon dialed John.Â
The two had grown up together, and she saw no need for pretense.Â
When he heard her out, John responded immediately, “I’ll talk to my dad and find out how much liquid capital we can free up right now.”Â
1/2Â
“John,” Sharon said, “don’t push too hard–and don’t put your dad in a difficult spot. I can still borrow more from Uriah and Xavier if needed.”Â
1Â
“I know,” John replied simply.Â
When she put down the phone, Sharon realized that Carter was watching her quietly.Â
His eyes were dark and deep, like moonlight rippling across a still pond–soft, reflective, and unfathomably calm.Â
He rarely looked at her like that.Â
Sharon’s lashes trembled. She instinctively averted her gaze.Â
“Thank you,” she said after a moment. “For everything just now.”Â
Carter’s voice was low and smooth, touched with quiet coolness.Â
“There’s no need to thank me. It’s what I should do… and what I owe you.”Â
