This had never happened before.Â
Miles was the only son, and when he vanished, his parents were beside themselves with panic. They immediately sent people to investigate–only to discover that Miles had never actually left the Kalen family’s banquet.Â
He’d attended the event with his secretary, but she, too, had disappeared without a trace.Â
When Miles’s parents heard the results of the inquiry, a deep unease began to take hold. Since the last place their son had been seen was at the Kalen family’s banquet, they came to the Kalen residence demanding answers.Â
Just as they arrived, Silas happened to be coming downstairs. Hearing Miles’s parents insist that the Kalen family hand over their son, he let out a sharp, mocking laugh.Â
“Gerard, Elyna, you actually have the nerve to ask us for him? We haven’t even come to settle our own score with you yet.Â
“Your son, Miles, drugged Sharon at Victoria’s birthday banquet and tried to force her into bed so that our family would have no choice but to marry her off to him.”Â
Even Silas, as reckless as he could be, wasn’t too dense to understand Miles’s true intentions. Marrying Sharon was just a ploy to get the Kalen Group’s shares!Â
No wonder Rick had been so furious.Â
If Miles’s plan had worked, he would’ve destroyed Sharon’s reputation, torn her from the Kalen family, and then taken over her shares to gain control of the entire company. 1Â
A cunning little scheme indeed.Â
There was no way the Kalen family would let outsiders seize their inheritance. The Silverstone family was shameless beyondÂ
measure.Â
Richard and Rick’s faces both darkened, but before they could stop him, Silas had already said too much.Â
Miles’s parents exchanged a heavy look. “I see,” Gerard Silverstone said coldly. “That explains why you’re holding Miles hostage here!”Â
Silas opened his mouth to retort, but Rick shot him a warning glare that made him fall silent instantly.Â
If Miles’s parents found out there had been conflict between the two families—and that Miles had vanished at their banquet—it would only strengthen their suspicion that the Kalen family was behind it.Â
Realizing this, Silas shut his mouth, but the damage was already done.Â
Miles’s parents looked as though they’d found the proof they needed. Their eyes burned with anger.Â
“We don’t know whether Miles really did what you claim,” Gerard said icily. “Call him out. Let’s settle this matter face–to–face.”Â
Richard spoke calmly. “Gerard, Elyna, Miles is not in our house. If he were, we wouldn’t be standing here trying to reason with you.”Â
Gerard gave a derisive snort. “You think we’ll buy that? Whatever happened, Miles disappeared after attending your banquet. You must take responsibility. And if he truly offended your daughter, then bring him out–we’ll verify it ourselves. Don’t tell me you’ve locked him up and taken justice into your own hands!”Â
Rick’s patience frayed. “Miles isn’t here. But since you say anyone can put on a show, may I assume you’re the ones hiding him, then pretending to accuse us first so you can avoid blame?”Â
Gerard nearly laughed from fury. “We’re the ones falsely accusing you? Go ahead and check whether Miles ever returned homeÂ
1/2Â
after leaving for your banquet last night!”Â
“Fine,” Rick said curtly. “We’ll find out right now.”Â
He called his assistant and ordered an immediate investigation into Miles’s whereabouts.Â
But when the report came back, it matched Gerard’s words almost exactly.Â
After leaving the Silverstone residence yesterday evening, Miles had never returned.Â
The surveillance cameras along the banquet hall corridor had mysteriously malfunctioned, leaving no footage of him at all.Â
No matter how hard either family searched, Miles’s trail had completely vanished.Â
It was as if he had disappeared into thin air overnight.Â
When Miles finally regained consciousness, he found himself in a dimly lit underground room.Â
He turned his head and saw his secretary tied up beside him.Â
Still groggy, his mind struggled to piece together what had happened.Â
