Carter narrowed his eyes. “Then explain this–why are you disparaging Sharon and trying to whitewash Jamie’s crimes? He kidnapped her, the evidence is undeniable, and the whole world has seen it. As her own family, shouldn’t you be seeking justice for her? Why are you defending the perpetrator? Is there some secret deal between you and Jamie?”Â
By the end, Carter’s voice had turned icy, sharp enough to leave Silas reeling, unable to respond.Â
“Enough,” Richard intervened just in time, cutting off the heated argument. “Once Sharon has been stabilized, we can askÂ
Miles ourselves.”Â
Carter’s gaze drifted away as he quietly waited for the rescue to conclude.Â
Outside, Julliard stared silently at the night, yet his mind churned restlessly. This was a once–in–a–lifetime opportunity–and Thomas had ruined it! 2Â
The thought only fanned his anger. He felt an overwhelming desire to deal with Thomas once and for all.Â
Then he realized something strange: Thomas, who had always been glued to Sharon’s side, was nowhere to be seen.Â
Julliard frowned but didn’t dwell on it. He assumed Thomas had gone to check on Theo.Â
Truth be told, Julliard detested Thomas so thoroughly that the very absence of the man felt like sweet relief.Â
No one had noticed that Thomas had long since left.Â
An hour later, Sharon was wheeled out of the emergency room.Â
Her condition had stabilized, though she was still unconscious.Â
Richard turned to Rick. “Rick, Sharon is safe now. Go bring that bastard Miles here. Silas, it’s Victoria’s birthday today; she still has matters to attend to. Take her home. Scott and I will stay here and oversee things.”Â
Silas, already exhausted from the banquet, the social obligations, and handling Johanna’s scandalous photos, was too drained to monitor someone he didn’t even like–Sharon. 1Â
“I’ll take Victoria home,” he said. Victoria hesitated briefly, then nodded.Â
When Rick returned to the room where Miles had been detained, he found it empty.Â
A frown creased his brow. Had Miles left after regaining consciousness?Â
He reported the situation to Richard, who paused thoughtfully before saying, “From the footage, Miles wasn’t unharmed either. It’s late tonight–let it go for now. Tomorrow, you and I will pay the Silverstones a visit together.”Â
Rick clenched his teeth, suppressing his contempt. “Got it.”Â
Even if Sharon were willing to forgive Miles, Rick certainly would not.Â
Miles’s actions had treated him like a fool, publicly humiliating him. If this incident became known, how could Rick maintain his authority? Who would respect him if anyone could toy with him and pin the blame on him?Â
The next day, as Richard and Rick were preparing to confront the Silverstone family, the Silverstones arrived at the KalenÂ
residence first.Â
“Richard! Rick! Our son Miles was last seen at your home! Hand him over immediately!”Â
1/2Â
It was Miles’s parents demanding his return.Â
The Kalen and Silverstone families were longtime acquaintances. While the elders were alive, the two families maintained frequent contact. After their passing, interactions had become rare, though business dealings continued steadily, mutuallyÂ
beneficial and reliable.Â
But after attending Victoria’s birthday banquet, Miles had not returned home overnight, and all phone calls to him went unanswered.Â
