Chapter 1078Â
Miles’s eyes lit up. Since Jamie was willing to help, what did he have to worry about?Â
Rubbing his hands eagerly, he asked, “Mr. Walton, then… when do you think would be the best time?”Â
Jamie flicked open a lighter and lit a cigarette. White smoke curled around his face, shrouding his expression in a haze of mystery.Â
“Next week,” he said. “At Victoria’s birthday party. That will be your best chance.”Â
A sly grin crept across Miles’s face.Â
After the ugly scene with Miles, Sharon had no mood to return to work. She decided to head straight home.Â
As usual, Enzo opened the car door for her, ready to see her off.Â
Just as she was about to step in, Thomas spoke up.Â
“Enzo,” he said with a faint smile, “Sharon and I are going home. Are you planning to come home with us, too?”Â
The words go home carried a subtle, ambiguous undertone.Â
Enzo’s eyes flickered, but he quickly returned a polite smile. “My apologies. I thought Sharon still needed to return to the office.”Â
Thomas’s smile deepened, though it never reached his eyes. “At this hour? You’d have her work overtime now? No matter how important the job is, people still need rest, don’t they? From what I’ve seen, you usually seem quite considerate. Funny–tonight, you don’t seem to know how to care for others at all.”Â
Enzo froze, guilt flashing across his face. “Sharon, I’m terribly sorry. I was too focused on getting the company back on track and wasn’t thinking clearly.” 1Â
He admitted his mistake so directly that pressing further would only make Thomas seem petty. 1Â
Thomas cast him a cool glance, stepped on the accelerator, and drove off.Â
When they arrived at the Kalen residence, they found Rick and Silas sitting in the living room, both wearing cold, stormy expressions.Â
The moment Sharon stepped inside, Silas sprang to his feet.Â
“Sharon!” he barked. “You useless, troublemaking fool! Do you have any idea how much chaos you’ve caused the Kalen family this time? Miles’s grandfather was Grandpa’s old comrade–in–arms! He even saved Grandpa’s life, yet you injured his grandson! You’re coming with me to the Silverstone residence now to apologize!”Â
Before Sharon could respond, Thomas leaned lazily against the doorway, smiling faintly. “Silas, how’s that hand of yours? Healed yet?”Â
Silas froze mid–step, his body stiffening as if nailed to the floor.Â
He glared at Thomas, jaw tight, but didn’t dare move closer. After the last few confrontations, neither Richard nor Rick had sided with him. He had thrown the first punch–he knew he was in the wrong.Â
Rick rubbed his temples wearily. “Sharon, Miles‘ granddad did help Mom a great deal when Dad wasn’t around. No matter what, you shouldn’t have been so impulsive. Hurting someone is never the right way.”Â
“I wasn’t impulsive,” Sharon said coldly. “A man like that deserved to be hit.”Â
She had barely finished before Silas exploded again.Â
“Sharon! Last time you ran into the sons of an oil tycoon and a financier, and now you’ve gone and assaulted Miles? Ever since you came back to the Kalen family, you’ve completely forgotten your place!”Â
“Sharon,” Rick said, his tone softer but edged with warning, “Dad doesn’t know about this yet. I’ve already done what I can to keep it quiet. Come with us to apologize now. The Silverstone family will likely let it go for Dad and Mom’s sake.”Â
Silas shot her a venomous glare. “Listen carefully–if your recklessness damages our family’s relationship with the Silverstones, no one in the family will ever forgive you!”Â
