Sharon nodded. “Mhm. There’s an important contract to be signed tonight.” 

Thomas’s expression was cool. “Is that so? I thought that now that you have Enzo, you wouldn’t need me anymore.” 

The remark caught her off guard–it sounded almost… strange. 

“Nonsense!” she replied. “You and Enzo are completely different.” 

His dark eyes lingered on her face. “Different? We both work for you. How are we not the same?” 

Sharon froze. She hadn’t actually considered that before, and for a moment, she couldn’t think of how to answer. 

Just then, a soft knock broke the silence. 

Enzo’s voice came from outside. “Ms. McKinzie, I have an urgent document that requires your review.” 

Sharon called back, “Wait for me in my office. I’ll be there shortly.” 

“Got it.” His footsteps faded down the corridor. 

Once he was gone, Sharon turned back to Thomas. “Thomas, don’t overthink it. You saved my life. You’re the person I trust most. No matter what happens, Enzo will never be more important than you.” 

Thomas’s face didn’t so much as flicker. “Julliard also saved your life. Is he important too?” 

Sharon frowned. Something about Thomas today felt… off. 

But she didn’t have time to dwell on it. The urgent document awaited her attention, and the evening’s signing was fast approaching. 

“Thomas, both you and Julliard have helped me a great deal,” she said gently. “You’re both equally important friends to me. I really have to go now, but I’ll call you before we leave tonight.” 

With that, she turned and hurried out of the room. 

Thomas watched her go, his gaze dark and cold. 

Lately, she’d been so busy that their time together had dwindled to almost nothing. And when they did speak, Enzo always seemed to show up moments later with some file or report. 

It had happened more times than he could count. 

A familiar edge crept back into his chest–a sharp, simmering resentment he hadn’t felt in a long time. 1 

That night, Sharon arrived punctually at the upscale entertainment club. 

Enzo accompanied her as usual, sitting beside her in the back seat, calmly briefing her on the contract’s key points and potential pitfalls.

This was Sharon’s first time signing a major business contract, and she treated it with utmost seriousness. They arrived a full thirty minutes early. 

Enzo said, “The other company can’t compare to Kalen Group’s scale, of course, but given our current situation, this deal could bring us back to life. If we secure it, the company could stay afloat for the next three years, even without new projects.” 

Sharon understood the weight of it and nodded. “I see.” 

When they entered the private lounge, the representatives from the other company were already waiting. 

One of the men rose with a smile. “Sharon, it’s an honor. I’m Miles Silverstone.” 

Miles looked to be in his early forties–imposing, sharply dressed, his rimless glasses adding a veneer of refinement. He was the man Sharon would be signing with tonight. 

Sharon approached politely and extended her hand. 

“Miles, a pleasure. I’m Sharon.” 

Miles took her hand in his, but as he released it, his fingers brushed deliberately across the back of hers–a fleeting, suggestive touch. 

Her expression didn’t change, but her eyes cooled instantly. She said nothing. 

Miles gestured toward the seat beside him. “They say Victoria is the most beautiful woman in the country, but I must say, Sharon, your elegance rivals hers… perhaps even surpasses it.” 

Sharon’s tone remained composed, her smile faint and distant. 

“Miles, would you like to review the contract details once more before we proceed?” 

But Miles’s gaze lingered on her–not on the documents, not on the deal–only on her.
