Chapter 1059 

Rick wasn’t set to inherit the Kalen family because he was the eldest; he was chosen because he was the most capable right now. 

Neither Scott nor Silas objected. In terms of talent and political skills, both of them still fell short of Rick. 

Back then, Rick had rescued a struggling, nearly bankrupt firm and, through reform, turned it into a thriving enterprise. Today, that company sat among the world’s top one hundred in its industry. 

Sharon had known this long before she returned to the Kalen household; she only nodded when Richard mentioned it. 

“I understand,” she said. 

Still, she had no intention of leaning on Rick for help. He didn’t mind–he truly had no time for petty consultations. 

Richard continued, “You have tonight to choose which company you want. You’ll have a year to run it and prove yourself. Your performance won’t automatically determine your future post, but shareholders and the board will be watching your capabilities, and that will affect whether they back your proposals. 1 

“Major investments and decisions must pass shareholder votes. Without the support of the other shareholders, your work will be difficult to carry out. Tomorrow, I’ll introduce you to the shareholders. It’s late–everyone, disperse.” 

There was much for Richard to handle. The trouble Sharon had stirred up was far from over. The oil tycoon and the financier had canceled their deals with Kalen Group. 

Since Kalen Group did a lot of business with other firms, losing those partners wasn’t a mortal wound–these collaborations were expendable. But who wanted another enemy? 

Before the kidnapping, there had still been room to negotiate. After the abduction, reconciliation became almost impossible. 1 

Richard set out to deal with the remaining fallout; Rick left soon after. 

Sharon, Silas, Scott, and Victoria had nothing more to discuss and returned to their rooms. 

Only when Sharon left did Silas’s face harden. “Sharon holds ten percent of the original shares, and Dad just 

gave her another ten percent equity. Add to that the old stalwarts who support her… her power in Kalen Group is already able to rival Dad and Rick. Even if we unite, we might still rank beneath her.” 

Scott shook his head. 

“Power alone means little. For major projects and decisions, even vast authority can’t make one person a law unto herself–shareholder votes matter.” 

“Remember those companies Mom invested in over twenty years ago? They’ve become cutting–edge tech firms. Dad and Rick may get yearly dividends from their original shares, but the real controlling stakes lie with that ten percent of original shares. In short, Sharon holds the controlling leverage over those tech firms.”

That was the kernel of their worry–the true reason Richard and Rick were uneasy. 

Silas spat, “Is that why Dad would rather split ten percent with her than refuse to bring her back? If Sharon acts recklessly or is set up, those companies could be finished.” 

Scott’s brow tightened. “Watch your tongue, Silas. Dad brought Sharon home because she is his daughter, not because of the original shares. Don’t make baseless accusations.”
