Richard and Rick had pressing business and were the first to leave. 

Lex’s injuries were still healing, and he looked uncharacteristically disheveled, a stark contrast to his usual polished composure. If not for his deep concern for Victoria, he would never have shown his face in such a state. 

The moment his eyes met Jamie’s, Lex’s expression darkened. 

If it weren’t for Jamie, he never would have fallen into Julliard’s hands, never been tortured, and certainly wouldn’t be in this wretched condition. 

Jamie’s gaze turned to ice in return. 

If not for Lex’s leaked footage, Walton Group’s stock wouldn’t have crashed. Even now, the fallout was a mess he could barely contain. Competitors and old enemies had seized on the scandal, tearing into him from all sides. 

In a single day, the Walton Group had lost billions in market value. 

And all of it-every last cent-was thanks to that scheming snake, Lex. 

The two men stood facing each other, mutual loathing simmering just beneath a veneer of calm. Both were patriarchs of powerful families, too practiced to let their hatred show. 

Their eyes met for a brief, electric moment, then slid away, utterly expressionless. 

Silas and Scott, wholly focused on Victoria, missed the charged tension between them. 

“Lex,” Scott asked, “when did Uriah say he could come to treat Victoria?” 

Lex was silent for a beat before replying evenly, “My dad is traveling abroad. It’s not a convenient time for him to return. I’ve contacted my elder brother instead; he will treat Victoria.” 

In truth, when Uriah heard about Victoria’s injury, he had refused without a moment’s hesitation-not even bothering to spare Lex the embarrassment. 

Silas, though hot-headed, was no fool. He understood immediately: Uriah could come; he simply didn’t want to. 

A cold, derisive laugh escaped him. “When Sharon was in the hospital, Uriah personally attended to her until she was discharged. Now Victoria is injured, and he can’t be bothered to show his face? It’s obvious who’s pulling the strings behind the scenes.” 

Scott was quiet for a moment before saying, “Victoria’s injuries aren’t life-threatening. Having Lex’s elder brother treat her will be just as effective.” 

His words were a match to a fuse. 

Silas erupted. “Not life-threatening? Have you looked at her hands? How bad do they have to be before you take it seriously? Do they need to be as ruined as Sharon’s? Why do you think they targeted her hands specifically? 

If you ask me, this whole thing reeks of Sharon! Those kidnappers claimed they were hired by the oil tycoon the financier, but neither ever showed their face. I’d bet they said all that in front of Victoria and Samantha on

A heavy silence fell over the room. 

Because, privately, they all suspected the same thing. 

It was then that Victoria, still lying weak and pale on the hospital bed, spoke up. 

“Scott, Silas,” she said, her voice soft but clear, “please don’t make assumptions without evidence. I really don’t believe Sharon is behind this.” 

“Victoria, you’re too kind-hearted,” Silas retorted, unable to hold back. “You were only kidnapped because Sharon misled those so-called tycoons into thinking you were the one who crashed into their car!” 

Victoria’s face was ashen. With her head shaved and eyebrows gone, her features looked strangely exposed, almost grotesque-but no one was laughing. 

“Perhaps it’s all just a misunderstanding,” she murmured. 

Silas opened his mouth to argue, but Scott cut him off. 

“Right now, Victoria’s recovery is the only thing that matters.” 

Sharon was as slippery as an eel; trying to pin anything on her was nearly impossible. 

Even Lex had been forced to swallow the humiliation of his own kidnapping.
