Samantha stared, her throat locked so tight she couldn’t make a sound. The air was thick with Victoria’s piercing, raw-throated screams. 

After prying off the nails, the men began dousing her hands with salt water, then rubbing chili powder into the bloody, exposed beds.

Then, as if that weren’t enough, they brought in a bucket writhing with live snakes and dumped them over Victoria’s body. 

No matter how strong-willed she was, Victoria was a society princess. She had never even seen such horrors, let alone endured them. But her captors were creative. They had only promised not to violate her-torture was a different matter. 

After all, the oil tycoon and the financier who hired them were expecting a show. 

One of the kidnappers suddenly brightened. 

“We can’t violate her, and we can’t leave permanent damage, but we can still break her. 

She’s supposed to be the jewel of the elite society, right? Let’s shave her head and her eyebrows. Let’s see how beautiful she is then.” 

“Now that’s an idea!” another laughed. 

Samantha could only watch, helpless, as they shaved Victoria’s head clean. Her bone structure was so fine that even bald, she was striking. But when they shaved off her eyebrows, her face became a grotesque, alien canvas. 

Cowering in the corner, Samantha trembled uncontrollably. Yet, when she realized the men had noticed she was awake and still made no move to harm her, a sliver of cold relief cut through her dread. Seeing they wouldn’t break Victoria’s limbs either, she allowed herself a shallow breath. 

They were still afraid—afraid of the Kalen family and the powerful men in Victoria’s orbit. If humiliation was the worst they had planned, then there was still a chance of survival. 

Victoria, meanwhile, had gone numb, her body limp, her face a mask of ash. She let them do as they pleased. She had never known such utter degradation. 

The shame was a fire in her veins, hotter than any physical pain, twisting into a single, feral thought: she would tear these men apart. 

And somehow, inexplicably, her mind flashed to Sharon. 

‘When Jamie tortured Sharon… did she feel this, too?’

Johanna awoke to absolute darkness. 

A blindfold covered her eyes, and when she tried to move, she found her wrists and ankles bound. She had no idea where she was or how she’d gotten there.
