Chapter 1041Â
“Stop making demands of ine. You have no right,” Sharon said.Â
Silas’s face contorted with rage, but Sharon’s calm voice sliced through his anger before he could speak.Â
“Shall I find you a mirror?” she asked coolly. “So you can all see exactly what you look like right now? Are those the faces of family, or of enemies?”Â
Her words struck a nerve, choking off Silas’s retort. Even Scott and Rick looked unsettled, their expressions dark and grim.Â
Richard moved quickly to defuse the situation.Â
“Sharon, please, ignore your brothers. They’re not thinking clearly. Come, sit with Theo. Let’s all calm down, and then we can discuss a plan to rescue Victoria.”Â
At that moment, Sharon’s phone rang.Â
Every eye in the room snapped toward her.Â
Silas shot her a suspicious glare. “Sharon, if I find out you’re in league with the kidnappers, I swear…”Â
He didn’t get to finish. Sharon had already answered and put the call on speakerphone.Â
A gentle female voice filled the room. “Sharon, it’s Ginny. I looked into that matter for you. The people who came after you…”Â
Ginny paused, then let out a soft sigh. “They were sent by your family. Specifically, they were Scott’s men.”Â
“I see,” Sharon replied, her voice even. “Thank you, Ginny.”Â
Ginny laughed lightly. “Don’t be so formal. After everything you endured in Zachemaine, when I couldn’t help you… being able to do this now means a lot. If you need anything else, promise you’ll call me.”Â
“Alright,” Sharon said.Â
They exchanged a few more words before she ended the call.Â
When she looked up, the faces before her were a maelstrom of shock, guilt, and sheer embarrassment.Â
“I noticed the oil tycoon and the financier were relentless,” she said, her tone deceptively light. “I was concerned they might target the Kalen family next. Dad has been too busy to investigate who sent those men after me, so I took the liberty of asking Ginny to look into it.”Â
She let her gaze travel slowly across each of their faces. “And it turns out the assassins were our own people.”Â
Her eyes hardened. “So, I’ll ask you directly–were you trying to have me killed in that car crash?”Â
Scott’s composure finally broke. Even he couldn’t hide his discomfort. Disliking his sister was one thing, orchestrating an attempt on her life was another.Â
If this ever got out, it wouldn’t just be a scandal–it would brand them as monsters in the eyes of society.Â
Rick finally stepped forward. “Sharon, don’t blame Scott. I heard you were at the airport and thought you were trying to flee. It was a terrible misunderstanding. I’m sorry.”Â
Thomas let out a cold, derisive laugh. “Oh, I see. So a near–fatal attack can be wiped clean with a simple ‘sorry‘?”Â
“Family truly is a burden, isn’t it?” he continued, his gaze shifting pointedly toward Jamie. “You’re expected to offer yourself as bait for them, and when they try to kill you themselves, a single word is supposed to make it all better. And your sworn enemies can just waltz in and become your family’s honored guests, and you’re supposed to forgive that, too.”Â

His voice softened, but the words cut deeper than any shout.Â
“With family like this, Sharon, you never seem to get their protection–only their damage. And somehow, you’re always left holding the pieces.Â
“It’s a blessing Kelly showed her true colors months ago. At least it made Carter the villain in the divorce.”Â
