Chapter 1039Â
Silas’s cold, cutting gaze slid from Sharon to Thomas, then landed on Theo.Â
He exploded, voice sharp with fury. “While the rest of us were tearing our hair out over Victoria’s kidnapping, you were out having fun with your son! Sharon, do you even have a conscience?” (2Â
Pointing straight at Theo, Silas roared, “This isn’t your playground, Sharon! The Kalen family isn’t a place where you can run wild. Take your son—and get out. Now!”Â
Theo flinched under the force of his uncle’s glare, shuddering from head to toe.Â
It was the first time he’d ever met his Uncle Silas and Uncle Scott.Â
Aunt Victoria had told him they were kind people, that they’d long wanted to meet him and had even prepared gifts. But now, faced with Silas’s rage–twisted expression, he thought his uncle looked more like a monster than a man.Â
Thomas moved smoothly, putting himself between Silas and Theo. His tone was deceptively light, but the ice in his voice was unmistakable.Â
“That’s interesting,” he began, a faint, cold smile on his lips. “When Sharon was kidnapped and tortured by Jamie, the evidence was overwhelming. Yet, I don’t recall you demanding he get out. Now Sharon comes back quietly, with her son, and you’re the one making accusations.”Â
He let the hypocrisy hang in the air for a moment before continuing.Â
“Silas, I knew you had a habit of bullying women. But at least Sharon is an adult; if you need to vent your petty frustrations, she can handle it. But this?” His gaze dropped pointedly to the boy behind him. “You’re directing your venom at a child.”Â
Thomas looked back at Silas, his contempt laid bare. “Anyone watching would think it was this little boy who kidnapped Victoria. It’s pathetic. And it shows a complete lack of class.”Â
Thomas’s words struck home. Across the room, the Kalen family’s faces flushed with anger, then paled with shame.Â
“That’s enough!” Richard’s voice cracked like a whip. “Silas, stand down! Theo just got here—he has nothing to do with any ofÂ
this!”Â
His expression softened as he turned to the boy, beckoning gently. “Theo, come here, child. Come to Grandpa.”Â
But Theo stayed where he was, half–hidden behind Thomas’s leg, too frightened to move. His uncles‘ faces looked like they wanted to eat him alive.Â
Scott wasn’t as hot–headed as Silas. After one glance at Theo, he turned his suspicion toward Sharon instead.Â
“Sharon,” he said, his voice cold. “You deliberately let the oil tycoon and the financier believe Victoria was the one who hurt their sons, didn’t you?”Â
Sharon met his gaze without flinching. “Scott, let me clarify a few things for you.Â
“First, I didn’t hurt anyone. The car that was chasing us is responsible. Instead of interrogating me, your time would be better spent finding out who sent them and handing that person over.Â
“Second, I didn’t mislead anyone. The only time I saw those men was in Dad’s office. I wouldn’t even have been there if you hadn’t dragged me in to apologize,Â
“And lastly, Dad heard the entire conversation. I told them repeatedly that I wasn’t Victoria, but they refused to listen. So tell me, what exactly was I supposed to do?”Â
Her calm, detached tone was like gasoline on a fire, pushing Silas and Scott toward the brink.Â

Only Rick kept his composure. He studied her for a long moment. “Sharon, Victoria and Samantha have been taken by the oil tycoon and the financier. They’re convinced Victoria is to blame for the accident. You know she’s innocent. And Samantha evenÂ
more so.Â
“Oh, that’s right, you might not know Samantha. She’s Uriah’s favorite granddaughter. Given your… history with the Malcolm family, I’m sure you don’t want to see her get hurt.”Â
Sharon immediately understood his meaning. Her expression turned to ice.Â
“Rick, you’re not suggesting you want to offer me up in a trade… are you?”Â
