Theo nodded obediently. “Alright.” 

Watching the scene, Carter’s dark eyes deepened. 

For some reason, Kelly’s face suddenly came to mind. 

Whenever they ate together, she would always order overly sweet drinks to please Theo. Even when it was something he wasn’t supposed to have, she would coax, “Just a sip, it’s fine.” 

During that period, Theo often fell ill. Once, he was even hospitalized with an allergic reaction after eating a slice of nut cake. 

Remembering that, Carter lowered his gaze slightly. 

How foolish he had been to believe Kelly’s manipulative nonsense. He’d once thought she truly cared for Theo. Now, it seemed… she didn’t even compare to a schemer like Thomas. 

He poured a glass of water for Sharon and was just about to hand it to her when his expression froze. 

Was he seeing things? 

Because standing not far away… was Kelly. 

After she fled, he hadn’t gone after her. As long as she stayed out of sight and out of trouble, he had no reason to hunt her down. After all, his divorce from Sharon hadn’t been entirely her fault. He bore a large share of the blame himself. 

Without his indulgence and blind favoritism, Kelly would never have grown so reckless. The problem had begun with him; he couldn’t place all the blame on her. Besides, from the way she’d resorted to throwing sulfuric acid at Johanna, it was clear-cornering her too hard could drive her to madness. 

The last thing he wanted was for Kelly to retaliate against Theo or Sharon. 

But then, Kelly caught his stunned gaze and smiled-a soft, bashful curve of her lips. 

“Carter,” she greeted gently. She stepped toward them and whispered, “I’m pregnant.” 

Carter frowned, utterly baffled. “You’re pregnant. What does that have to do with me?” 

Kelly blinked innocently. “But… the child is yours.” 

Every head turned to stare at her. 

Ignoring their shock, Kelly continued, her voice trembling with false delicacy. “Thomas, did you forget? That night, not long ago, you were completely drunk. You and I… we…” 1 

Before she could finish, Sharon suddenly stood up. 

“Thomas, take Theo and leave first.” 

Theo looked dazed, still trying to make sense of what was happening. He was young, but he understood enough

to know that being “pregnant” meant there was a baby involved. 

Kelly didn’t care. Today, she was here to blow things up. The more people who knew, the better-it would make it impossible for Carter to deny her claims. 

Just as she moved to stop Theo from leaving, Thomas gave her a cool, indifferent glance. 

That single look made her freeze, her hand hanging awkwardly midair. 

Without a word, Thomas led Theo away, disappearing from her line of sight. 

“You two talk,” Sharon said evenly. “I’m leaving too.” 

She and Carter were divorced-whatever happened between him and Kelly was none of her concern. 

Carter rose quickly. “Sharon, I never slept with her-” 

Before he could finish, Kelly threw herself into his arms, tears glistening in her eyes. “Carter, are you really going to abandon me and the baby?” 

Using Kelly’s sudden embrace as cover, Sharon slipped away without another word. 

It had been a long morning, and Theo was already tired. Sharon had no desire to run into Kelly again, so they returned straight to the Kalen family estate. 

Since Theo had come all the way to Marcentine, it was only right that he meet Richard. 

But as soon as they entered the grand hall, Sharon froze. The room was packed with people— even Jamie was 

there. 

Her lashes trembled slightly; something was wrong. Something big. 

The first to notice her was Silas. Hatred flashed across his face. 

“Sharon,” he spat, “you set Victoria up, didn’t you?!”
