The air froze for a moment. 

After a long silence, Richard finally spoke. “Sharon, I’ll take care of this matter. You’ve had quite a fright today. Go home and rest.” 

Sharon rose to her feet. “All right, then I’ll take my leave.” 

With that, she and Thomas left the office. 

The moment the door closed behind them, Richard’s composure shattered. His face darkened, and his voice thundered across the room. 

“You two are useless-good for nothing but creating trouble!” He jabbed a trembling finger at Silas and Scott. 

“One can’t hold his temper, the other jumps at every rumor! You sent people to hunt down your sister, and you did it so publicly! If word of this gets out, we’ll be the laughingstock of the entire city!” 

Silas and Scott stood with their heads bowed, too ashamed to speak. They knew this chaos was a direct result of their own reckless actions.

Outside the office, Victoria turned to the others. “I just spoke with Samantha. Lex has been found. He’s in the hospital right now. I’m going to check on him.” 

“I’ll drive you,” Scott said quickly. “I want to see him too.” 

Because of Victoria, he and Lex had a close relationship, with several joint ventures between them. 

Victoria nodded. 

Not long after, they arrived at the hospital. But the sight that greeted them inside left both Victoria and Silas stunned. 

Lex lay motionless on the bed, his body covered in bruises and gashes-there was barely a patch of skin left unmarked. Even his once-handsome face was marred with several deep, terrifying scars. 

Victoria’s brows drew together. “Oh my gosh… Lex… what happened to him?” 

Samantha’s voice was heavy with grief. “Uncle Lex is still unconscious. We don’t know what exactly happened. But one thing’s certain-” Her expression hardened, and her eyes darkened with fury. “He was tortured. Brutally.” 

Samantha and Victoria had graduated from the same university and shared a dorm room; their friendship ran deep. 

Samantha had the kind of beauty that drew warmth rather than distance-a delicate oval face, large almond- shaped eyes that shimmered like starlight, soft and luminous. When she smiled, two dimples bloomed on her cheeks like drops of honey, sweet and disarming.

“Listoria City?” Victoria’s gaze sharpened. “That’s where he was last seen before he went missing, isn’t it?” 

“Yes. But for the details… we’ll have to wait until he wakes up,” Samantha said. 

Victoria hesitated. “Should we inform Uriah?” 

Samantha shook her head. “Uncle Rudy said most of Uncle Lex’s injuries are superficial. They look bad, but they didn’t reach his organs. Uncle Rudy can treat Uncle Lex. There’s no need to alarm Grandpa yet-he’d only worry.

She seemed to want to say more but held back, glancing at Scott uneasily. 

Noticing her hesitation, Scott said, “You two talk. I’ll check with the doctors about Lex’s condition.” 

Once he left, Victoria turned to her friend. “Samantha, what is it you couldn’t say earlier?” 

Samantha met her gaze. “Sharon… she’s Carter’s ex-wife, isn’t she?” 

“Yes,” 

“Victoria admitted. “But I only found out later-from the news. I had no idea at the time.” 

Samantha fell silent for a moment, her brows drawing together. 

Of course, when Sharon returned to the Kalen family, she hadn’t yet married. There was no way she could have known Carter back then.
