Chapter 1009Â
Beads of sweat dotted Scott’s assistant’s forehead, yet his expression remained icy and composed. His tone was clipped and formal.Â
“Miss McKinzie, Mr. Kalen requests your presence at home.”Â
Sharon smiled faintly. “Perfect timing. Our car’s out of fuel anyway. Sorry to trouble you.”Â
The assistant blinked, momentarily thrown off. He hadn’t expected that after overturning multiple cars and causing a city-wide uproar, Sharon would actually agree so easily.Â
With a discreet glance, he signaled to the tall, broad-shouldered bodyguards behind him. They immediately closed in on Sharon’s group, ready to prevent any attempt at escape.Â
Sharon acted as though she hadn’t noticed. She slid gracefully into the car.Â
Wendy followed her into the backseat, while Thomas took the passenger seat.Â
As soon as the engine started, several vehicles pulled in close, forming a tight perimeter around them-no room left for flight.Â
Yet all the way back, Sharon made no move to resist. She was so unnervingly cooperative that it put everyone on edge. The quieter she became, the tighter the assistant’s nerves coiled, terrified she was only biding her time for another outrageous stunt.Â
Only when they finally crossed into the Kalen family estate did he dare to breathe again.Â
Sharon, Wendy, and Thomas stepped through the doors-only to find not just the entire Kalen family gathered in the living room, but the Walton siblings as well.Â
As she entered, Jamie’s lips curved into a mocking smile. He leaned back lazily in his chair, sipping tea, looking for all the world like a man settling in to watch a show.Â
On the way back, Silas had already received the assistant’s report.Â
At first, everyone believed Sharon’s apparent compliance was an act-a trick to lull them into lowering their guard before another uproar. But she had returned without a fuss. Not a single mishap occurred on the way.Â
When Silas saw her, he shot to his feet in an instant. Striding toward Sharon, he raised his hand, ready to slap her.Â
But before he could get close, Sharon spoke.Â
“Dad, brothers,” she said solemnly, “I beg you to stand up for me. We had just seen a friend off at the airport when a group of unidentified vehicles suddenly began tailing us. They rammed straight for us-clearly intent on killing me.Â
“We drove for our lives across half the city, but no matter how we turned, we couldn’t shake them off. They even deployed a helicopter to finish the job.Â
“Later, our fuel ran out, and we were forced to stop. Thankfully, Scott sent his assistant to our aid and rescuedÂ

“I’ve barely been in Marcentine a few days. Who could hate me enough to muster such forces just to run me off the road? Please, help me find out who’s behind this and avenge me. Our family must never allow itself to be bullied by petty scoundrels.” 1Â
The room fell into a stunned silence.Â
Even Silas froze mid-step.Â
Every gaze locked on Sharon, disbelief flickering across their faces. Had she really just said that?Â
It was Jamie who finally broke the suffocating quiet, his voice dripping with amusement.Â
“Well, you certainly know how to strike first with accusations,” he drawled. “Don’t tell me you truly have no idea who was chasing you.”Â
Sharon met his gaze evenly, her tone calm but pointed.Â
“I truly don’t. I’ve done nothing illegal in Marcentine-no crimes, no violence. Yet, someone staged a full-scale pursuit, roadblocks and helicopters included, as if I were some fugitive.Â
“Tell me, Mr. Walton, do you know who was after me? Because honestly, I’m quite curious myself. Who would go to such absurd lengths… just to catch me?”Â
