Chapter 6

Shaking his head, the assistant’s silent demeanor made Oliver all the more annoyed.

“Speak! What’s going on?” he snapped.

“I’m sorry, Sir…”

“Maybe Isabel is just hiding somewhere. They couldn’t find her, so now they’re feeling guilty.” Anne suddenly smiled, tugged on Oliver’s hand and she did not let him keep worrying about me. “Enough! What does this have to do with you? You can’t go looking for her yourself, can you?” “Just have someone else handle it. The cookies I baked are still sitting there. Oliver, promise me you won’t give my sister a hard time anymore, okay?”

Oliver gave her a gentle hug, his eyes filled with emotion. “You’re still the best. That woman’s no even worth a single strand of your hair.”

Floating nearby, I thought, I could do that too.

Before we got married, Oliver had told me he liked women who devoted themselves to home and family. After the wedding, people around him constantly hinted that he preferred women whc were quiet and traditional.

Because I loved him and my heart was clouded by love, I thought I should act in accordance with the kind of person Oliver liked. So. I learned to cook and quickly took care of everything for him. However, Oliver never noticed, because he did not love me, all of those things did not matter tc

him.

Now, because another woman did small things that I had done a thousand times before, the whole family was overjoyed and moved to tears.

It’s kind of funny, to be honest.

I kept on laughing, but my tears began to fall because I saw my best friend, Claire Anderson.

The moment she saw Oliver and Anne standing together, she slapped him hard.

“Oliver, do you have any shame?” she snarled. “Isabel got pregnant for you, yet you’re fooling around with another woman?”

Oliver grabbed her wrist. He looked impatient. “What are you yelling about? Did that woman, Isabel, send you here?”

Claire realized something was wrong and demanded, “Did you lose Isabel?”

That caught Oliver off guard. He hadn’t expected that I hadn’t even seen Claire lately. And wher she said I hadn’t been to our studio in over a week and the studio’s work had stalled as a result Oliver finally began to panic.

I had always been career-driven. Even after getting married, when he didn’t allow me to work, I secretly started a small studio specializing in environmental design.

Business had been going really well lately. Even if I had leg cramps, I would still finish my work. I would never let personal problems interfere with business. So how could I possibly just walk away from the studio?

Unless well…

Claire immediately called the police on the spot

“No, don’t!”

Anne screamed and reached out to grab her hand. Oliver froze for a moment, then realized something and rushed over to grab Claire as well.

But Claire bolted and sprinted straight into a basement.

This house was designed by me and several of the basements were specifically designed as secret rooms for Claire and me to work on designs together, so even Oliver didn’t know about

them.

Oliver stood at the door, his face filled with disbelief. “So, Isabel has been hiding things from me all along? And here I was worrying about her!”

He convinced himself that I must have dug deep underground to hide somewhere, maybe even installed hidden cameras just to watch him run around like a clown searching for me.

Anne’s lips twitched, but she still wholeheartedly agreed with him.

Encouraged, Oliver immediately began arranging to dig me out of the ground.

After making the emergency call, Claire walked up and said coldly.
