Chapter 21

Janet suddenly approached with an expressionless face.

She gave Roger a slight shake of her head before taking his hand.

Only then did Roger release Justin.

Justin staggered up from the ground, his eyes stinging at the sight of their intertwined fingers.

Redness rimmed his eyes, his pale face etched with confusion and anguish.

He gazed cautiously at Janet.

“Janet, you…”

“Sir, I’m afraid I don’t know you.”

“My name is Janet Johnson, but I might not be the person you’re looking for.”

She then glanced at Roger beside her. “Roger, let’s go. No point wasting time on him.”

Justin’s heart clenched painfully at her icy demeanor.

He scrambled after them, voice trembling with disbelief.

“How could you not be Janet? You are.”

“I know you’re angry with me, resent me–but please don’t pretend we’re strangers.”

“I’ve learned everything about Helen’s schemes. I was a fool, dancing to

her tune.”

“But Janet, we weathered storms together for years. How can you forget?”

Janet swallowed the cold laugh rising in her throat.

She paused and ask

“Marriage?”

softly:

“Sir, can you produce any proof we were ever married?”

Justin’s face drained of color at those words.

He’d personally orchestrated their divorce.

Worse, Janet had later filed for official deregistration.

He couldn’t produce a single shred of evidence they’d shared a past.

Justin fell silent at last.

Yet he still trailed Janet like a shadow,

praying she might glance back at him.

But Janet chatted animatedly with Roger, never once turning around.

He followed her all the way home.

Rachel, who’d been chatting with Stephanie, lost all composure at the sight of Justin.

Her eyes turned glacial. Shoving past Stephanie, she rushed forward and slapped him hard–once, twice.

Clutching his reddened cheek, Justin didn’t rage but chuckled foolishly.

He stared at Rachel, trembling with hope. “You remember me, Mrs. Johnson.”

“You and Janet haven’t lost your memories. You both still know me, right?”

Rachel flexed her stinging palm, her face blank.

“Don’t flatter yourself. I simply despise the sight of you.”

Stephanie stifled a laugh while pulling Rachel back, then shot Roger a sharp look.

“Hurry up and chase this tramp away.”

“Filthy thing, claiming he knows our Janet. Know your place.”

Justin instinctively glanced at his soiled, crumpled suit.

He stammered helplessly:

“N–no, it’s not like that.”

“I’m usually well–groomed. I’ve just… been searching for Janet nonstop. Barely slept.”

Janet had no desire to hear another word from Justin.

Janet knew Justin wasn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

But she wasn’t worried.
