Chapter 88
Sebastian’s eyes stayed fixed on Valeria and the direction she and Selena had walked off in.
After a short distance, Selena started to get tired. Valeria leaned down to lift her up. She was light, but still, holding her for too long took effort. Just a few steps later, the girl tapped her shoulder, signaling she wanted to be put down.
As they continued, Valeria greeted a few neighbors along the way with warm smiles, clearly familiar with most of them. Then there was a man.
Sebastian narrowed his eyes, arching a brow.
He watched as a younger guy came into view-average-looking, not tall, with zero fashion sense. Nothing about him stood out. Still, Valeria smiled at him-smiled in that bright, red- lipped way that made her eyes light up.
Sebastian’s brow furrowed deeper. He pinched the cigarette between his fingers, his expression darkening. What the hell was she smiling like that for? And to a guy?
Judging from her body language, they weren’t close enough for him to be her husband. And frankly, he didn’t think Valeria would go for someone so… bland. The guy looked bookish, delicate almost, with black-rimmed glasses. He looked like a human marshmallow.
Then the guy picked up Selena, carrying her in his arms while walking alongside Valeria like it was the most natural thing in the world.
astian crushed his cigarette underfoot and strode forward with long, angry strides. Either ney were walking too slowly, or he was moving too fast, but within seconds, he was right
behind them.
Selena spotted him first. She lit up, smiling happily and calling out excitedly, “Mr. Grant!”
The next second, Sebastian reached out and took her from the man’s arms. She immediately wrapped her arms around his neck like it was nothing new.
Valeria turned in surprise, startled to see him suddenly appear. Before she could say anything, Sebastian shifted the girl into one arm and used his free hand to grab Valeria’s wrist-fingers closing around hers.
“Ms. Neal, who’s this?” Caleb Wane froze when he saw the tall, sharp-featured man stride up and take Valeria by the wrist. He instinctively took a step forward.
Sebastian turned around, his gaze cold and unwelcoming.
Caleb stiffened on the spot.
“Sebastian? What are you doing here?” Valeria was being pulled along, unable to shake his grip. But Sebastian was strong. She tried to pull away. But it wasn’t much of a struggle- nothing too obvious.
Selena rested her head on his broad shoulder, a soft smile playing on her lips. It was that kind of smile-pure surprise and happiness, the kind she only showed when she saw Sebastian.
Valeria could tell that Selena really enjoyed being around him. Maybe it was blood ties. Selena
felt safe with him.
If Valeria struggled too hard, it’d look like a fight, and that might scare Selena. They didn’t stop until they reached her apartment building.
Only then, did Sebastian finally look at her, his voice low and thick with restrained anger.” Your husband’s not home, and you’re out in public, getting handsy with another man in your neighborhood. Are you not worried someone might see?”
Valeria blinked, stunned that he was the one throwing accusations. He had just dragged her all the way here by the wrist. Wasn’t he the one making a scene?
She stared at him, at a loss for words. Sebastian was unbelievable. She stared at his hand
wrapped firmly around her wrist. His palm was dry and warm—almost burning.
“Sebastian, who’s the one yanking on my wrist right now?” she asked, her voice calm but sharp.
