Chapter 63
Valeria knew this because she had sent Sebastian a love letter before.
“Val, have you ever sent someone a love letter?”
She hummed thoughtfully before nodding.
Sebastian eyed her through the rearview mirror.
Valeria’s eyelashes were fluttering as she looked down. The atmosphere in the car seemed to have changed the second Valeria entered. Her perfume wafted through the air.
He refocused his eyes on the road. Water droplets streamed down the window.
Sebastian dropped her off in front of her neighborhood. Valeria got out and waved at Leo. Then, she smiled and said, “Thanks, Dr. Grant.”
She sounded natural, and her tone was gentle. Even her eyes sparkled with a hint of a smile.
Sebastian eyed her through the half-open window. When water splashed in, he rolled it up and
drove away.
Leo’s face was grim.
“Uncle Sebastian, don’t think for a moment that I can’t tell you’re trying to separate Valeria
and me.”
Sebastian was silent. He used the turn signal and then turned right.
“I won’t give up, though. You won’t be able to drive a wedge between us. We’re fated to be
lovers.”
Sebastian had no idea what telenovelas Leo had been watching with Martha. He frowned as Leo continued prattling on about the love of a century he shared with Valeria.
Sebastian ordered, “The next time the teachers ask your parents to come to school, don’t
come to me for help.”
It fired a bullet straight through Leo’s heart, who went silent. He ducked his head.
After sending Leo home, Sebastian was about to leave when Martha held him back and said, It’s raining cats and dogs. Stay here tonight.”
“Nemo’s at home, so I’ve got to get back.”
Grabbing his arm, Martha said, “I heard Mark’s getting married this weekend. You should pay a little more attention to your own affairs.
”
“How are things with Sabrina? I bought two tickets to the concert of a famous singer. Why don’t you guys go together next week? It might bring you guys even closer together.”
Nodding perfunctorily, Sebastian mumbled, “I might be busy next week.”
Then, he left.
Nicholas sighed. “Stop worrying over them. Clearly, he’s not interested in Ms. Lawson and isn’t treating her seriously. Forcing them together won’t yield good results. Just tell Mrs. Lawson about it and call it off.”
“I wasn’t interested in you when we first got together anyway,” spat Martha. Then, she stuck both arms on her hips and strutted upstairs.
Avery couldn’t help but giggle. They were almost in their 80s, yet they still flirted under the cover of bickering.
Sebastian had just gotten back when the receptionist informed him that a parcel had arrived for him in the morning. It was now right outside his door.
Sebastian arrived at his door and saw the box outside.
After showering, he came out to see Nemo lying beside the box, chewing at it. Walking over, he patted Nemo’s head. “It’s not for you.”
Bending down, he cut the box open with scissors. It was filled with bubble wrap and there was a card which said, “Wooden pieces must be treasured. It’ll shatter if dropped.”
Cutting through the bubble wrap, a black box was revealed. He opened it to see cushioning and a bunny with wings. It looked like the bunny would come to life at any moment.
It was only halfway done. The sculpture had to be glued onto the musical box so it could spin around to the music.
The bunny had taken two weeks to be customized and another ten days to have it delivered. For some reason, after seeing the bunny last week, Sebastian found the shop’s account online and called them to place an order.
Sebastian frowned. It was as though he’d done so under the instructions of a devil on his
shoulder.
