Chapter 243 

Now, Sebastian could no longer find that box. He couldn’t even dig through the trash can, even if he wanted to. 

Avery noticed Sebastian’s dazed and anxious expression. “Mr. Grant, what’s wrong?” 

“There was a box inside my study. Did you throw it out?” Even though he had been the one to instruct the housekeeper to throw the box away, at that moment, he regretted it deeply. 

However, many days had already passed, and the heavens had not given him the slightest chance to get it back. He was the one who had ruined everything. 

Avery quickly said, “It’s all in the storage room on the second floor of the basement.” 

Sebastian froze in place as he looked at Avery and thought he was hearing things. They hadn’t thrown the box out? 

Seeing his expression, Avery hurriedly brought Sebastian to the elevator and went down to the basement, where there was a big storage room. 

His cardboard box sat on the top shelf of one of the racks. 

Sebastian looked like he had just found a priceless treasure as he quickly carried the box down and opened it. He checked that everything was still there–not a single thing was missing. 

Avery also sighed in relief. Back then, she had a feeling the box was super important since Sebastian had kept it for seven years. So how could they throw it away? 

What if Sebastian suddenly regretted it and wanted it back? 

And that was indeed what had happened. 

With trembling hands, Sebastian opened the notebook and saw Jane’s beautiful handwriting. The entire notebook recorded all of their expenses when they were together. Everything was still there, and nothing was lost. 

So, did that mean he still had a chance? 

Avery couldn’t help but tell Martha about Sebastian’s unusual behavior after he hurriedly left the Grant residence. 

Martha understood her son too well. She had never seen him cry since he turned eight, so how could his eyes possibly turn red just from hugging a cardboard box? Was that really her son? 

So, Martha asked Avery, “Are you sure you weren’t mistaken?” 

“There was no mistake. I didn’t even dare to make a sound back then. Sebastian just held the items in the box while his eyes turned red,” Avery answered. 

Martha sighed. “Jane was the one who had sent him everything in that box. Luckily, you were smart enough to keep it. 

“How could he possibly throw it away so randomly after keeping it for so many years? If the box had been thrown away in a moment of anger, how is he possibly going to find it again?” 

Martha could still remember how dark Sebastian’s expression had become when he first saw the box seven years ago. 

After the surgery, Margaret’s recovery was going well. She had left the ICU wards after three days and was ready to be discharged after eight. 

Valeria saw Sebastian outside Margaret’s ward again. In fact, she had seen him repeatedly over the past few days.

Sebastian would bring Valeria lunch, and he would stay and chat with Margaret when she wasn’t there. 

He would also place a coat over her shoulders whenever Valeria stayed the night. Whenever Valeria noticed, Sebastian would quickly look away, not daring to meet her eyes. 

Valeria had already paid 50 thousand dollars when Margaret was admitted to the hospital, but when she went to settle the balance, she was told the bill had already been paid. 

On Wednesday afternoon, Valeria went to a hotel near the hospital and booked a room for Margaret. That hotel was established for patients and even offered nutritional meals designed for patients. 

Margaret only needed to stay there for one more week before she could return home. 

When she turned around, she immediately spotted Sebastian again. The second their eyes met, Sebastian stopped in his tracks before turning away awkwardly. 

Valeria said, “I know a doctor’s time is precious, so you shouldn’t be wasting it here.” 

Watching Valeria finalize the arrangements with the hotel, Sebastian said, “I’m on leave today. Also, I have a house with a 

backyard on the first floor under my name. 

“It’s in a great location, so you can bring your grandma to rest there for the time being. I’ll even hire a nutritionist to care for her daily meals since it’s important for cancer patients to increase their immunity.” 

Valeria paid the bill, signed the agreement, and selected a meal plan for Margaret. 

With a pen in hand, Valeria answered, “There’s no need for that.” 

Once she finished discussing everything with the hotel, she booked a cab and left. 

Sebastian did not follow her this time. When he returned to Margaret’s hospital ward, he happened to see Shane and Selena 

inside as well. 

Looking at Selena, Sebastian tried his best to muster up the softest and gentlest expression he could. However, he couldn’t move his face naturally, so his entire expression looked a little odd. “Lenny.” 

“Mr. Grant!” Selena jumped down from the chair and ran toward him. 

With shaky hands, Sebastian gently caressed Selena’s face. As he looked at her, he finally understood that the sense of familiarity he had felt when they first met was because she was his daughter. 

At that moment, Sebastian felt like the smile on his face must have looked terrible.
