Chapter 190
Sebastian’s voice was cold and indifferent.
Sabrina’s cheeks flushed. She couldn’t tell if it was from embarrassment or awkwardness, so she forced a stiff smile.
Right then, Gabriella said, “Sebastian, don’t joke around.”
After that, she looped her arm through Sabrina’s. “Sebastian was merely pulling your leg.”
Nicholas and Martha could tell that Sebastian wasn’t at all interested in Sabrina. He showed her not the slightest courtesy. He wasn’t the sort of man who joked, yet he had told her outright that he had blocked her number.
Nicholas also gave him a look, signaling for him to show some restraint.
Not only did the Lawson family collaborate with the Grant family for business in the past, but Sabrina was also Gabriella’s close friend. For Gabriella’s tour, Sabrina had even designed the gown herself.
Sebastian ate a few bites and said, “I’m done. I’ll head upstairs first. Marcus is expecting me. I’m going over in a bit.”
Hearing that, Martha asked, “Why don’t you stay over? You haven’t slept here in over a week.”
“With so many people at home, and Alexander back, are you still afraid of being lonely?” He stood up and glanced at the strands of hair at Martha’s temples. She had grown much thinner in the past two years.
He then allowed himself a rare jest. “Did you send Dad to sleep in the study because you wanted me to share your bed? Alright. I’ll be back tomorrow.”
Nicholas‘ expression darkened. “I’m the one who moved out of the bedroom. I don’t want to argue with her, but who stays up past midnight sending tips and song requests to some male influencer?”
Martha set a piece of celery, Nicholas‘ least favorite item, onto his plate. “What do you know? You don’t understand how pitiful that young man is.
“His father’s in prison, his mother’s sick, and he even got scammed by a friend. I’m just helping him out. He didn’t ask for much–just a sports car.”
“You’re actually saying that with a straight face! You’re making a joke of us in front of the kids!” Nicholas grumbled.
Mallory and Zayn shared a look and stayed quiet.

Alexander gave a light cough, and Wendy simply continued eating with her head lowered.
Only Leo, his tongue out from something spicy, kept nodding. “Grandma is right! My teacher says we should be kindhearted. Grandma is a kindhearted person!”
“You’re absolutely right, Leo!”
Sebastian left the dining room. Inside, laughter and chatter carried on, as harmonious as it had been. His steps faltered for a moment before he went upstairs.
After a shower, he went to the walk–in closet.
He sometimes stayed at the Grant residence, but most of the time he lived at his own properties. In Slate City, he owned three properties, including a luxurious apartment in the southern part of the city for easy commuting, a villa with a stunning view, and a private vineyard.
Sebastian picked out a few pieces to try on and spent half an hour in the closet.
Frowning, he took off what he was wearing and settled on a black turtleneck. The knit was thin and close–fitting, outlining the muscles of his chest and abdomen with every breath.
He then stood before the mirror for a moment, feeling satisfied.
Fresh from his shower, his short hair lay smooth across his forehead. Fixing his gaze on the reflection, he pressed his fingers to his hairline, sweeping the hair back, then picked up the glasses from the table and put them on.
Sebastian was mildly nearsighted, with a refractive error of around 200 degrees, and only wore glasses when seeing patients.
The frames of his glasses caught a faint metallic sheen, resting on the bridge of his nose. They tempered the imposing chill of his face with an added note of refined detachment.
Afterward, he took a gray overcoat from the hanger, checked the time, and draped it over his
arm as he walked out.
On the stairs, he crossed paths with Zayn coming up. Zayn gave him a look and teased, “Off to your date with Marcus?”
Huh! He’d even taken the time to style his hair.
Sebastian didn’t respond to that.
