Chapter 186
“Are you being poached by another company?” Kayla asked.
“I’m going back to my hometown,” Valeria answered. “Life in Slate City is competitive and stressful. I’m worried about my granny being alone in my hometown.”
Verdanci District might have been a small place, but it had developed quite a bit over the past
two years.
At first, Valeria had a simple plan. She wanted to work hard and live a peaceful life. Having spent her middle school, high school, and university years here, she had hoped to build a life in Slate City.
She wanted Selena to grow up in a healthy learning environment. However, she was now starting to realize that what mattered most was companionship, warmth, and living with family.
Valeria only had her grandmother. Her mother was gone, so she couldn’t leave Margaret alone
in their hometown.
Kayla supported the idea. “Well, congrats! You’re about to start your countryside life. I’m
planning to work till I’m 40, then quit. I’ll buy a big apartment downtown and build a two- story house on the outskirts to grow flowers and vegetables.”
Suddenly, someone knocked on the door.
Kayla nodded. “Come in.”
Valeria turned to leave.
Sabrina walked in, expressing, “Kayla, don’t forget to come. It’s tonight at 6:30 pm. I’ve saved you a seat, so there’s no need for a ticket. Just mention my name when you arrive.”
Kayla replied, “It’s tonight? Oh, okay. See you then.”
Sabrina glanced at Valeria. “Well, well, well, if it isn’t. Team One’s busiest person. We finally
meet,”
“Hi, Ms. Lawson.”
“I’m sure your schedule is packed, so I won’t bother to invite you.” Looking at Valeria’s back, Sabrina shifted her tone slightly and continued, “There are two files on my desk. One of them was sent by the person in charge of Vesture.
“You’ve taken quite a few days off this month, so I’m assigning that project to you.”
“Okay,” Valeria responded.

Even though Valeria had taken leave this month, she hadn’t fallen behind on work. Team One’s design drafts were all submitted on time.
However, Vesture was a company she had worked with the previous year, and its representative, Tony Bloom, knew her well. Hence, it was an assignment she could handle
easily.

Back at her desk, Valeria suddenly remembered she had two concert tickets.
She wasn’t going to watch Gabriella’s performance, so she gave the tickets to Lindsey and Queenie.
“Valeria, how did you manage to get these tickets? They were sold out very quickly!” Queenie was in disbelief.
“These are VIP seats. This is the media section. They don’t even sell these to the public,” Lindsey uttered.
“I heard Gabriella’s final tour stop is in Slate City. It’s been delayed repeatedly. I’ve been wanting to see it for ages. Her band is a total feast for the ears. Besides performing her signature work, she’s even invited the Crown Ensemble.”
Valeria took a sip of water.
“A friend gave them to me.” Meeting Queenie and Lindsey’s surprised looks, she reached out. If you don’t want them, I’ll take them back.”
“Hey! I want it!”
“Valeira, I had no idea you had connections in that industry.”
Valeria shrugged and turned her attention to the computer screen.
Lindsey walked over and started massaging her shoulders. “How’s the pressure?”
“Hmm… Go a bit harder.”
“Got it!”
Queenie answered a call and went downstairs to pick up three cups of coffee. She then popped a straw into Valeria’s cup and handed it to her. “There you go, Valeria!”
“Hmph!”
The sound of high heels approached, and a woman’s cold scoff followed. At the sound, Lindsey and Queenie quickly returned to their desks.

Dressed in an off–white designer suit and sunglasses, Sabrina gave the office a cold sweep of her gaze before walking out with her purse.
Lindsey lowered her voice to say, “I heard Ms. Lawson is also attending Gabriella’s concert tonight. They’re supposedly friends.”
As one of Sabrina’s assistants, she always had some gossip to share.
“Well, Gabriella’s dad is the current heir to the Grant Group, you know?” Queenie gave a thumbs–up. “It’s the mighty Grant Group…”
Valeria left the office at around 6:00 pm.
