Chapter 150
“Hey, Sebastian? Is that you?” a woman’s voice called out, her tone carrying a hint of surprise.
Sebastian looked up at the woman walking toward him. He didn’t know her, but vaguely remembered that she was a high school classmate from Class B who had attended the previous gathering at Mark’s bar.
But he couldn’t quite recall her name until the woman introduced herself. “I’m Sarah Chambers. Do you remember me? I was in Class B back in high school.”
Sebastian barely responded, giving only a slight nod as a greeting.
Meanwhile, Valeria suddenly clenched her cutlery tightly.
She looked at Sarah and was about to lower her gaze when Sarah glanced back at her, her eyes narrowing slightly with curiosity, as if trying to figure out who Valeria was.
“Sebastian, is this your girl…”
“Hey, Sarah!” Valeria called out hurriedly.
Maybe it was the urgency in her tone, because Sebastian glanced her way. Valeria quickly steadied herself as she gave Sarah a smile. Pretending to be friendly, she asked, “Are you here
alone?”
“Oh, I’m meeting a friend. I got here early,” Sarah responded. She didn’t know who Valeria was, but felt like her tone was familiar, like they knew each other. Just as she was about to ask who Valeria was, Sebastian’s phone rang.
He glanced at the caller ID, stood up, and stepped out to take the call.
Valeria watched Sebastian’s back.
She kept watching him walk down the stairs, and only then did she realize she was sweating all
over her back.
“Hey, miss…” Sarah looked at Valeria. “You look familiar. Have we met before?”
“I…” Valeria began to speak, but hesitated before she added, “We were high school classmates.
I went to Nueve High School too.”
Sarah smiled. “What a small world! I’m sorry I didn’t recognize you. Which class were you in back then?
Valeria was at a loss for words. After all, one lie leads to another.
She couldn’t say she was from Class B, nor could she say Class C. She found herself caught

between truth and lies, trying to find a way out but getting caught up even more.
Sarah was a friendly person. She asked to exchange contacts with Valeria, grinning as she asked, “What’s your relationship with Sebastian? Are you two dating?”
“No,” Valeria denied.

“I see.” Sarah nodded. “You’re really pretty, and you two look great together. When I first saw you, I thought you were his girlfriend.”
She didn’t remember anyone that pretty at Nueve High School. If there had been, the woman in front of her would’ve been the school’s queen bee.
After they exchanged contacts, someone called Sarah’s name from upstairs. Sarah immediately said, “My friend’s here. I gotta go. Let’s catch up another time.”
Valeria was about to exhale in relief.
Sarah had already walked away.
But faintly, Valeria heard Sarah say, “Valeria Wood, what took you so long to get here?”
Then the other woman replied, “The traffic’s terrible at this hour. I took a cab, and it cost me ten dollars extra.”
Valeria Neal blinked nervously.
Even in a big city like Slate City, moments like this made it feel like a small world. She had just met the real Valeria Wood.
“Do you wanna go watch a movie after dinner?” Sarah asked.
“Nah, I need to go home and be with Gianna. My husband’s working late tonight, and my in- laws are looking after her.”
“Valeria, now that you’re married, you’ve become such a family–oriented person. But your husband’s doing pretty well. With him running a tutoring center, at least you don’t have to worry about your daughter’s education.”
“It’s alright, I guess. Winter break is coming up soon, so things are a bit busy.”
“What do you feel like eating? Their specialty here is BBQ chicken.”
It wasn’t far away, and Valeria Neal could hear everything. She turned around and looked at the woman named Valeria Wood–the real Valeria. And she herself was the fake Valeria.
Her lies were starting to unravel.
She stood up with a pale face.

Sarah saw Valeria Neal getting up to leave and waved at her.
Valeria’s expression froze, and she couldn’t find the words to respond. All she v get out of there.
Valeria Wood then asked Sarah, “Who was that?”
“No idea. She was having dinner with Sebastian. She seemed like one of our hig classmates,” Sarah replied.
“Sebastian? Where is he?” Valeria Wood asked.
