Chapter 137
Martha had plucked a strand of Selena’s hair and had planned to take it to the lab for a DNA
test.
However, Nicholas had stopped Martha and chastised her for it. He had claimed that her age was catching up to her brain and that she was acting on impulse.
Martha had been arguing with him for almost a lifetime, and her rebuttal to her words were solid.
“Not only do I read those silly novels, I’m also planning to act in them. I’ve already signed a contract with the entertainment companies under our family, and filming will start soon.
“I’m not just funding the whole drama, I’ll also be playing the role of a madam from a wealthy family.”
After taking a few bites, Nicholas was so annoyed that he got a headache and left the table.
The butler quickly went to the kitchen to have the chef prepare another meal, brought it upstairs, and tried to persuade Nicholas.
Nicholas sighed and said, “Just let her do what she wants.
Valeria had taken a few days off from school.
A week later, Valeria had brought Lucy to the hospital for a follow–up. The doctor said Lucy’s eyes had recovered nicely, and Lucy just needed to watch her diet and rest at home for a full
recovery.
Another two days later, Valeria had to return to work, so she was planning to hire a caregiver
for Lucy.
Lucy had been lying on the sofa, listening to an audiobook. “I don’t want a caregiver. I don’t have any difficulties moving around, so why would I need a caregiver?”
If the issue was with how she couldn’t see, then she could always just walk slowly.
Lucy was staying in her home, the place where she had lived for more than half of her life. She didn’t need her eyes to know where everything was.
Then, Lucy added, “You can just ask Lenny to act as my eyes. If I’m hungry, I’ll just order some takeout. Don’t worry, Selena and I won’t end up starving.”
Hearing Lucy’s words, Valeria burst out laughing.

“Do you think I don’t know how to order takeout or something? I’m telling you this now, know how to do plenty of things out there,” Lucy said animatedly.

Unfortunately, since Lucy couldn’t see, she couldn’t play cards and banter with her two friends.
Valeria asked Lucy about it a few more times, but Lucy was adamant about not hiring a caregiver.
Then, Valeria took Lucy’s phone and opened the TikTok app to send an emoji to both ” LifeTranquility” and “SunshineSmile“.
Before Valeria left, she reminded Selena to use Lucy’s phone to call her if anything happened.
When Valeria had returned home from work, Lucy told her that Leo had been visiting often for the past few days.
Martha would come with him sometimes, and it seemed that Lucy and Martha had hit it off.
Meanwhile, there were a few more police officers on patrol at Salmade Primary School. All the parents had signed a petition and sent it to the prosecutor’s office, demanding that the perpetrator be severely punished.
Leo’s cold had cleared up, but he could only visit Selena on the weekends. Unfortunately, Selena ended up catching the cold from Leo.
The flu seemed to be spreading everywhere since it was winter time. So, Valeria found a stroller for Selena and pushed her to the hospital for an IV drip.
The hospital was packed with people. The sounds of people coughing were unending, most of
them from children.
Afraid of cross–infection, Valeria brought Selena to finish her IV drip in the hallway.
“Mommy, don’t blame Leo. He’s not the one who gave me the cold,” Selena said.
Valeria patted Selena’s head and answered, “I know.”
How could Valeria possibly blame another child? Such circumstances were avoidable in life. Even if someone in Selena’s class had gotten the virus, there was a chance the whole class would catch it too.
Leo sent a few crying emojis to Valeria on WhatsApp. “Val, you don’t blame me, do you? I thought my cold was gone…”
Valeria sent Leo a voice message in return. “I won’t. I’ll even invite you over for a meal one day, alright?”
Valeria had softened her voice to comfort Leo, and she didn’t notice the figure coming up
from behind her.
Chapter 137
It was only when Selena greeted Sebastian that Valeria finally looked up.
Sebastian was tall, and his shadow enveloped her completely.

Sebastian’s lounge was much different from what Selena had imagined.
They were at the Southern branch of Slate City Medical Center. The main branch had originally been the one in the north, but due to how big the Southern branch was, the hospital shifted its
focus here.
His lounge had a table, a narrow bed, around four feet long, and a clothing rack holding a
man’s coat.
The smell of disinfectant lingered in the air around them, but there was also a faint trace of Sebastian’s scent in the air.
Sebastian placed Selena on the small bed and patted her head. “She can sleep here for a while. When she wakes up, the IV drip will also be done.”
He still had some work to do, so he did not stay long. Before he left, he said, “Although this is a public lounge, usually no doctors would come here, so no one will disturb you.”
It began to rain shortly after, and the mottled haze of rain spread across the glass.
Selena had fallen asleep on the bed, and she had finished her IV drip.
Valeria tucked her in with the blanket.
The sound of rain was particularly clear in the dimly lit lounge. Valeria hadn’t turned the lights on as she was afraid the strong lights would affect Selena’s rest.
