Chapter 114 

“Mommy, can we see Great–Grandma again next week?” Selena asked. 

Valeria pulled out a tissue and wiped Selena’s reddened eyes. Humans were emotional creatures, and goodbyes were always sad. 

Valeria said, “We’ll come and stay at her house during the winter break. We’ll stay for a long time.” 

When she opened her bag, she saw that it was stuffed full of things. They were all snacks that Margaret had been saving for them at home, old–fashioned snacks that had gone out of style. They were snacks that had long been eliminated from the shelves of big cities. 

Even the money Valeria had secretly tucked under Margaret’s bed was now stuffed back in her bag. 

“Are these from Great–Grandma?” Selena beamed, peeling open a candy wrapper. She handed the first one to Valeria and had the second one herself. 

Valeria’s eyes reddened. At that moment, she felt that her life really was happy and warm. She had a cute and thoughtful daughter, as well as a grandmother who loved her. 

The candy was cheap and ordinary, but it was the sweetest Valeria had ever tasted. 

She made up her mind. 

Once Selena recovered from her surgery, Valeria might bring Selena back to the village to live. A slow life might suit Selena better. 

By the time they got home, it was already six in the evening. Since it was winter, the sky was already dark. 

“Mommy, did you get a package?” Selena asked. 

When they were changing shoes, Valeria noticed a package on the shoe cabinet. 

Valeria hadn’t bought anything, and there wasn’t a shipping label on the package either. She opened it and saw a pink backpack inside that was just the right size for Selena’s shoulders. 

Valeria pulled out her phone and searched for the brand. When she saw that it had a five–digit price tag, she couldn’t help but gasp. 

At the same time, Valeria realized who had given them this backpack. 

Valeria stroked Selena’s hair. “Mr. Grant gave it to you.” 

Sebastian had thrown away the backpack and cake Caleb had given, only to give a new one

They were both adults, and Valeria understood what Sebastian meant by this. She just didn’t understand why. 

Sebastian was the heir of the Grant family. He could have any woman he wanted. 

So why did he have to come all the way here to play the lover with her? Was he just looking for a thrill? 

She didn’t think there was anything special about her that would attract him. 

They had slept together so many times, so Valeria knew he had a very high sex drive. It had already been seven years since their college days, and there was no way he had been without any women the whole time. 

Valeria walked into Selena’s room, and when she opened the drawer, she found a blue gemstone tiara. Selena told her that it was a present from Sebastian. 

Selena didn’t understand the value of it, but Valeria recognized the jewelry brand at a glance. It was far too expensive. 

The phone rang twice before Sebastian answered. The background on his end was noisy, and she could vaguely hear someone calling out to him. He was probably playing poker. 

“Sebastian, where are you going?” 

Sebastian put down his cards, patted someone on the shoulder to take his place, then walked out with his phone in hand. 

Hearing Valeria’s voice, he said, “That’s a gift I gave to Selena. I gave it to her, and she can do whatever she wants with it. If she doesn’t like it, she can throw it away.” 

He was still the same. In the past, he used to tell Jane the same thing too.
