Chapter 109
Valeria frowned, not expecting that Sebastian would misunderstand things so much.
Those slippers weren’t Shane’s. She had bought them herself and left them outside. After all, she was a single mother living in an old neighborhood. There was naturally a need to put on a
front.
There were also two men’s shirts hanging on the balcony. While those did belong to Shane, she had just taken them from the wardrobe at Lucy’s place. They made her feel a little safer.
Besides, the slippers by the door could be worn by guests, so they weren’t just for show.
But something strange had happened recently.
Those slippers had been out there for about three years, and suddenly, there was a burn hole in one of them.
The camera at the door had been out of battery for the past few days. She had just recharged it, so it hadn’t recorded anything. She had no idea who had pulled that prank.
Valeria didn’t realize that Sebastian had believed she was married to Shane all this time, and that Selena was her and Shane’s daughter. But that wasn’t a bad thing. This way, he would never know that Selena was his daughter, and he would never find out who Valeria really was.
The person who once knew her the best felt like such a stranger now.
They were such strangers that he couldn’t even recognize her face to face.
It was exactly what she wanted, and yet…
Valeria glanced toward the bathroom and lowered her voice. “Of course, I have a sense of safety. So, Mr. Grant, can you leave now?”
The most unsafe factor here was him.
Sebastian narrowed his eyes as he stood up and walked toward Valeria, staring at her the
whole time.
She was wearing a blue sweater that night. She looked so gentle and elegant, with a few strands of hair falling loosely by her neck, brushing against her pale skin and collarbone.
Did she have any idea that the way she looked right now had caused Caleb to stare at her in a daze the whole night? And yet, she had let that man stay this late in her home. Was she waiting for the night to grow deeper so something else could happen?
Men were all dangerous. What was she going to do if something were to happen? Or were the two of them already at a stage where everything was consensual?
Chapter 109
Valeria took a step back. “Sebastian, I really appreciate you taking Selena out tonight and giving her such an unforgettable birthday.
This birthday might become one of Selena’s most treasured memories.
Once Selena had her surgery, Valeria would leave Slate City with her. And they might never see Sebastian again after that.
He was Selena’s biological father. The bond of blood would naturally draw the two of them
closer.
Selena seemed to like him a lot. When she was with him, her joy was so genuine and sincere.
The living room was small, and Sebastian only needed two steps to reach Valeria before he placed both hands on her shoulders.
He didn’t even know where this sudden anger had come from.
Was it because the slippers that didn’t fit him were being worn by another man? Or was it because another man had come here to celebrate Selena’s birthday, buying her a cake and even giving her a present?
And Valeria had welcomed Caleb with a smile.
The fruit on the table hadn’t been for Sebastian; it was for someone else.
Sebastian could tell that Valeria didn’t seem to have a good relationship with her husband.
Was the marriage just for show?
After all, Selena bore Valeria’s surname, Neal.
