Chapter 107
The one who opened the door was a young man. He had a buzz cut, wore glasses, and looked refined in his appearance.
The man looked at Sebastian, and Sebastian stared back with his dark eyes, his lips pursed slightly.
Selena blinked. “Uncle Caleb.”
Caleb smiled and patted her hair. “Lenny, did you have fun outside?”
He seemed to know she had been out playing that day. He looked at Sebastian and could immediately tell that Sebastian didn’t come from an ordinary background. Caleb’s expression became slightly stiff and awkward. “Thank you for bringing Lenny back so late.”
There was nothing wrong with what Caleb said, but his words seemed to sting when Sebastian heard them.
Who was that man to thank Sebastian like that? It wasn’t Caleb’s place to thank him.
Sebastian held Selena’s hand and stepped inside. As they walked in, Caleb was still standing in the doorway. Sebastian’s shoulder lightly brushed against him as Sebastian walked right in.
Sebastian was much taller than Caleb and seemed to have a cold presence around him, which caused Caleb to awkwardly rub his nose.
The living room was still the same as when Sebastian was last there. It was small, but cozy.
The lighting was a bright yellow.
There was a bouquet of flowers on the little white coffee table, alongside a small cake and a
pink backpack.
Sounds were coming from the kitchen, so Sebastian looked over with his hands still in his
pockets. He saw Valeria with her back to him, wearing a light blue sweater and white lounge pants. He looked at her long, slender legs and her waist that was so thin he could wrap his
hand around it.
Selena ran over and hugged Valeria’s leg. “Mommy.”
Valeria smiled. “Did you have fun today?”
“I did!” Selena said. “Mommy, why is Uncle Caleb here?”
Sebastian snorted coldly at that question.
Even Selena knew that it was strange for that man to be in their home.
Chapter 107
Valeria heard his voice and looked over.
Sebastian walked to the sofa and sat down, crossing one leg over the other. His legs were so long that they bumped into the coffee table when they stretched out.
Seemingly reflecting his mood, the table scraped across the floor with a loud screech.
Caleb walked over and sat down as well.
There was only one small, three–seater sofa in the house. Now, there was only one space left between the two of them.
Valeria’s brow twitched. She brought some washed fruit to the living room and could vaguely sense the unusual tension in the air.
The pipes in the bathroom had broken and were leaking into Lucy’s home.
So Lucy had asked Caleb to help out. Caleb’s mother also lived in this neighborhood and often played cards with Lucy. Since it was a Friday night and they had no work the next day, Lucy had casually mentioned the leak to Caleb’s mother, who had sent Caleb over.
Caleb must have learned from Lucy that it was Selena’s birthday, so he brought a little cake and a pink backpack along.
Valeria had been washing fruits in the kitchen when Sebastian came back with Selena.
She could feel the chill in the air of the living room, and the source of it all was that man who was sitting by the armrest, dressed in his sharp–looking suit.
The soft, warm light in the living room did nothing to melt the coldness that was coming from Sebastian.
Caleb stood up when Valeria walked in. “I’ve looked at the bathroom pipe. I don’t have the right parts right now, but I’ve placed an order. I’ll replace it for you once the delivery guy gets here.”
“Sorry to trouble you,” Valeria said as she placed the fruits on the table. Then, she picked up a neatly cut orange slice and handed it to Caleb.
Suddenly, her hand trembled.
From the corner of her eye, she saw Sebastian’s gaze. It made her frown slightly.
Then, after a moment of hesitation, she picked up another slice of orange and handed it to
Sebastian.
