He fumbled to catch the papers, his pupils constricting when he glimpsed the contents.
“Divorce? You’re even asking me to leave with nothing?”
We once vowed that no matter how badly we fought, neither of us would ever mention
divorce.

He knew I was serious this time. He stumbled forward trying to grab my hand, his tone frantic:
“Emma, I was too hasty earlier. It’s my
fault.”
“Let me explain. Don’t get divorced, okay?”
His eyes softened, but when his gaze swept over my abdomen, he suddenly froze.
Belatedly realizing it was flat.
“Where’s the baby?”
He grabbed my shoulders tightly, shaking me painfully:
“I’m asking you! Where’s my child?!”
I let him shake me, a cold smile slowly spreading across my face.
“Ryan, bring it in.”
I took a foam box from Ryan’s hands and casually tossed it on the ground.
“Take a look. This is the bride price I’m giving to Tiffany on your behalf.
Jack only glanced inside the box before collapsing to the ground.
He seemed to have gone mad, asking over and over: “Why? Why? Why?”
I looked down at him expressionlessly, my heart like dead ashes.
“When you jumped into the sea to save Tiffany, our child…
“No.” I smiled bitterly and corrected myself. “Your and Tiffany’s child was already gone.”
Jack suddenly looked up, his eyes filled with horror.
“You… you knew everything…

He tried to lunge at me.
Ryan beside me finally couldn’t take it anymore and kicked him hard in the chest.
“You beast!”

Jack fell backwards, the back of his head hitting the floor hard.
I looked down at him, each word piercing his heart.
“Jack, do you remember when your company was about to go bankrupt years ago? My parents swallowed their pride and borrowed from all our relatives and friends to help you through the crisis. Later when my dad was critically ill and waiting for money for a kidney transplant, you were away on a business trip and wouldn’t even answer the phone.”
“How ironic that I only found out today, on the day my dad died with regrets because we couldn’t raise enough for the surgery, you were out house hunting with Tiffany, swiping your card for a million dollars without blinking an eye.”
Hot tears poured down my face. My hands were shaking as I spoke.
“I was so stupid, wholeheartedly taking care of this family, pouring my heart and soul into your career. What I got in return was your success and fame, and the destruction of my family!”
Those hands finally slapped Jack hard across the face.
“Leaving with nothing is the last shred of dignity I’m giving you!”
Every sentence hit Jack where it hurt.
He hung his head, his expression dark and unreadable.
But Tiffany rushed over furiously, pointing at me and Ryan as she screamed:
“You talk a good game! I bet you’ve been having an affair with this man for a long time! You just want to kick Jack out so you can run off together! You slu-”
The word “slut” was still stuck in her throat when I grabbed a gong from one of the old

ladies and slammed it over her head.
“Who gave you the right to butt in? Getting cocky now?”
Tiffany burst into tears.
Jack shielded her behind him, his eyes flickering darkly between me and Ryan.
“You’re in such a hurry? Did she hit the nail on the head and make you nervous?”
Unexpectedly, a young woman suddenly emerged from the group of old ladies, speaking
before I could.
“I don’t know if she’s in a hurry, but I can see you’re barking like a cornered dog.”
The woman walked to Ryan’s side and took his arm.
“I’m Ryan’s girlfriend. Surprise! I even sponsored these banners!”
“What right do you two scumbags have to smear Ryan and Emma’s friendship!?”
Jack finally panicked completely.
“Emma, I was wrong.”
I slapped him again.
“Get lost!”
