Chapter 6

Georgia and Marvin snatched the paper from my hands. When they saw that it was a signed abortion consent form, dated just yesterday, the truth finally sank in.

Both of them froze, their eyes bulging in shock.

Georgia lunged at me, ready to slap me, but I stepped aside. She screamed, her voice shrill with rage, “Evelyn, you bitch! How dare you! How dare you kill that baby!”

Marvin was so enraged that his chest heaved violently, nearly leaving him breathless. Stumbling unsteadily, he shouted, “You wretched woman! Are you trying to destroy the Buckner family?”

Gabriel stared at me in disbelief, his voice shaking as he asked, “Evelyn… how could you do this? The baby was five months along. How could you be so cruel?”

The whole family turned on me, their voices sharp with accusation.

The shareholders present, unsure of what was really happening, began whispering among themselves. Meanwhile, the reporters seized the chaos, their shutters firing in a relentless storm of flashes.

Watching them panic and rage, I felt a dark sense of satisfaction well up inside me. It even made me laugh. “So you do know what pain feels like.”

I thought back to the day I lost my first child and how broken I felt. No one had cared or helped me. Now it was their turn.

Furious, Georgia spat at me. “You’re just getting revenge! We gave you the best of everything and treated you so well! And this is how you repay us?”

I let out a cold laugh. “Treated me well? You forced me to abort three babies in three years. Don’t you dare twist the story. And to think you monsters have the nerve to cry victim?”

She faltered at my words, her mouth opening and closing before she stammered, “N-nonsense! You were reckless when you were younger and ruined your body. That’s why you couldn’t carry a baby to term. Don’t try to pin it on us!”

Hearing her lies and seeing her mask finally crack, I couldn’t help but clap slowly in mock applause.

“What a wolf in sheep’s clothing you turned out to be, Georgia. Even a fake saint could put on a better act than you. But you and I both know the truth. Don’t you dare pretend otherwise. Everything you’ve done will come back to bite you one day!”

The moment the words left my mouth, Georgia’s head snapped up. “No… there’s no way you could know…”

I clenched my fists so tightly that my nails dug into my palms and forced the words out through gritted teeth. “No secrets stay buried forever.”

Seeing me humiliate Georgia, Marvin grabbed his cane and moved to strike me, but I yanked it right out of his hand and flung it aside without a second thought.

Humiliated in front of everyone, he roared, “You’re just a shameless woman from a lowly family with no manners and no respect for your elders! How dare you defy me in public?”

Then, he barked, “Gabriel, control your wife. Teach her a lesson! Show her the Buckner family is not a place where she can throw tantrums.”

Gabriel’s face was dark as he stepped toward me. He hesitated for a few seconds, then said softly, “Evelyn… apologize to Mom

and Dad.”

Even now, he was still siding with them.

Before he could finish, I slapped him three times. The red marks spread across his cheek, and for the first time in years, I felt a

sliver of relief.

“You’re pathetic, Gabriel,” I spat coldly. “You’re a worthless coward. Maybe it’s divine punishment that a man like you will never have children.”

He didn’t answer, but the bulging vein on his forehead and the fists trembling at his sides betrayed him.

Seeing their son powerless to control me, Marvin and Georgia called security to throw me out. They shouted after me, “Evelyn, if you won’t behave, get ready to face us in court!”

I stopped, turned, and smiled bitterly. “No. It’s you who should be facing charges for premeditated murder! My three children’s lives are enough to make you rot in prison until the day you die!”
