Chapter 4

Seraphina took two sets of documents to the office.

Caspian frowned when he saw how heavily bandaged Seraphina’s hand was.

“What happened to your hand?”

“Are you hurt? Is this your way of getting back at me for what I said last night? By hurting yourself?”

So, he didn’t even realize he was the reason her hand was injured.

Then again, whenever Thalia was around, his attention was never on her.

Seraphina had no desire to explain. “No, I just cut it by accident.”

Caspian wasn’t an idiot. A wound that severe couldn’t possibly be accidental.

Before he could press further, Seraphina pulled out the two documents.

‘Mr. Kingsley, I have two agreements here that require your signature.”

Caspian’s frown deepened.

Before, when it was just the two of them, Seraphina never called him so formally.

Caspian felt a surge of irritation. Just as he was about to read the documents, a call came in from Thalia.

After a few brief words, Caspian grabbed his jacket and prepared to go out. “I have to go. We’ll deal with these contracts later.”

But Seraphina wouldn’t let him, shoving a pen into his hand and insisting, “These are urgent. They have to be signed now.”

Seraphina flipped straight to the signature page and placed it in front of him.

Chalia called again. Seraphina’s fist clenched slightly. “Sign them, and you can go.”

Caspian, annoyed with Seraphina’s impatience, scrawled his signature with a frown and said coldly, “There. Happy?”

His name was now on both documents. Seraphina took a deep breath and nodded. “Yes.”

The man turned to leave but paused at the door.

Thalia’s coming home for dinner tonight. She’s a picky eater, so make sure you cook a few of her favorite dishes.”

I’ve already spoken to Thalia about last night. She’s magnanimous and won’t hold it against you, so you should drop it, too.”

You’re the older sister. Making her dinner can be your apology.”

With that, Caspian left without a backward glance.

eraphina looked down at her hand, wrapped up like a dumpling, and gave a self-deprecating smile.

Even after seeing her hand in this state, he still expected her to compromise for Thalia’s sake.

n the evening, Caspian returned with Thalia.

The moment he walked in, Caspian smelled something burning. He rushed out to the backyard garden to find Seraphina feeding a fire.

‘What are you burning?”

Caspian walked closer and realized Seraphina was burning the gifts he had once bought her.

These were the things Seraphina used to treasure most.

Once, a maid had accidentally ruined one while washing it, and she had thrown a massive fit.

But now, she was burning all of it.

Losing his composure, Caspian kicked over the fire pit and demanded coldly, “What is the meaning of this?”

Seraphina said calmly, “There’s no more room in the house, so I’m getting rid of a few things.”

“Did you forget? You’re the one who called this afternoon and told me Thalia was moving in, that I needed to clear out a room for her.”

The accusations on the tip of his tongue died in his throat.

Although her excuse was perfectly reasonable, a heavy feeling settled in Caspian’s chest.

Thalia linked her arm with Caspian’s. “Caspian, I do have a lot of stuff. It’s just some old things, though. If she wants to burn them, let her.”

Caspian’s expression flickered. “Forget it. Let them burn. It’s not like they were anything important.”

Caspian turned and walked away.

Seraphina looked at the memories being reduced to ash, a small smile touching her lips.

hat’s right. They weren’t important anyway. What’s gone is gone.

n the dining room, Caspian frowned when he noticed Seraphina hadn’t cooked.

Didn’t I tell you Thalia was coming for dinner? Why haven’t you made anything?”

eraphina glanced at him, raised her bandaged hand, and said flatly, “I can’t.”

‘or a second, Caspian actually felt a pang of guilt.

Ie’d forgotten Seraphina was injured.

eeing Caspian soften, Thalia immediately tugged on his arm. “Caspian, Seraphina hasn’t cooked, let’s just go out to eat.”

Tot wanting to see them for another second, Seraphina turned and went upstairs.

fter her shower, a call came in from Spencer.

Ie said he was starting to plan the wedding and wanted to know what style she liked.

Vith Caspian, after three years of being a nameless secret, she hadn’t dared to even dream of a wedding.

ll this time, she had thought she wasn’t worthy of one.

ut Spencer had effortlessly given her the security she craved.

eraphina thought about it seriously. “The beach. I’d like a beach wedding.”

1st then, Caspian, who was passing the door, burst in. “What wedding?”
