Chapter 2 

There was a distinct pause on Spencer’s end, he was silent for several seconds. 

Seraphina thought she had been too forward and quickly backtracked. “I’m sorry, that was presumptuous. If you’re not interested, Mr. Hayes, just forget I said 

anything.” 

Soon, Spencer’s deep, slightly husky voice came through the line. “What made you change your mind, Ms. Anderson? You turned me down just two weeks ago.” 

Seraphina took a deep breath, her eyes drifting up to the bedroom window above. 

“Back then, I couldn’t tell a man from a monster. Now, I see things clearly.” 

She could clearly hear the flick of a lighter on his end, followed by the hint of a smirk in his voice. 

‘Alright. I’ll pick you up in a week. As soon as you have that divorce decree in hand, we’ll get married.” 

Seraphina hummed in agreement, then added a condition. “I heard you own a fifty-percent controlling stake in Kingsley Corp. I want those shares.” 

she was about to offer something in exchange when he agreed without hesitation. “Done. And not just fifty percent of Kingsley Corp. You’ll have control over 

half of all my personal assets as well.” 

Seraphina never expected Spencer to be so generous. While she was still reeling, he hung up. 

At midnight, just as Seraphina had drifted off to sleep, Caspian returned. 

The cloying scent of another woman’s perfume washed over her, making her stomach turn. 

She frowned and pushed him away, but his arms only tightened around her, his voice softening. 

Babe, don’t be angry. I just lost control this afternoon. That’s why it happened.” 

Besides, you know I’ve loved Thalia for years. I almost married her back then.” 

A man always has this indescribable feeling for the one that got away. Even though I slept with her, you’re still my wife.” 

Seraphina, you love me so much. You’ll understand, right?” 

Seraphina’s heart froze over, piece by piece. 

Her husband slept with her sister, and he expected her to understand? 

Inderstand his cheating? 

Seraphina fought back the rising nausea, pushed him away, and said with a blank expression, “I don’t mind.” 

he didn’t love him anymore. No matter what he did, she wouldn’t mind, and it couldn’t hurt her now. 

learing this, Caspian looked slightly taken aback. 

He knew how absurd his words sounded and had a dozen excuses ready. 

But her simple “I don’t mind” left him speechless. 

Meeting Seraphina’s gaze, Caspian quickly rationalized it to himself. 

eraphina was crazy about him. She would forgive him for anything. 

Caspian breathed a sigh of relief. “I knew you were the most understanding.” 

By the way, tomorrow is Thalia’s birthday. Make sure you’re there. We don’t want people talking.” 

At that, Seraphina scoffed internally. 

She was an orphan who didn’t even know her own birthday, so the family had decreed she would share the same day as Thalia.

But in all those years, she had never once celebrated her own birthday on that day, 

Seraphina started to refuse, but Caspian informed her it was Mr. Anderson’s wish as well. 

The next day, at the birthday party. 

The mansion was lit up as bright as day, filled with a who’s who of the business elite. 

Kingsley Corp. was at the height of its power in Westwood now, everyone had to bow and scrape before Caspian. 

Having been Caspian’s secretary for three years, Seraphina stood beside him out of habit. 

An oil tycoon ambled over, champagne flute in hand. “I hear wedding bells are ringing for Mr. Kingsley and the Anderson heiress. But the Andersons have two daughters, I wonder which one Mr. Kingsley intends to marry?” 

Suddenly, Seraphina’s heart leaped into her throat. 

In three years of marriage, he had never once publicly acknowledged her. Would this time be different? 

All eyes were on Caspian. 

Suddenly, Thalia, standing nearby, looped her arm through Caspian’s and said with a saccharine smile, “Caspian and I are childhood sweethearts. Some things are better left unsaid, right, Caspian?” 

Caspian smiled back at her. “Yes. Whatever Thalia says is right.” 

He didn’t deny it. 

The crowd chuckled, some voices laced with mockery. 

“There’s a real difference between the true heiress and the adopted one. Look at Seraphina-she’s been his dogsbody secretary for three years, and the title of Mrs. Kingsley is still out of her reach.” 

“She’s just an adopted girl. If the Andersons hadn’t taken her in, who knows where she’d be, digging for scraps.” 

The mocking comments washed over Seraphina, a chill seeping deep into her bones. 

Perhaps she’d heard so much ridicule over the years that she had become numb to the pain. 

Everyone presented their birthday gifts to Thalia, making her the center of attention. 

Seraphina, however, escaped to the rooftop for some air. 

She told herself to just wait a little longer. Once everything here was settled, she could finally leave. 

While she was lost in thought, Thalia approached, holding a gift box. 

“Seraphina, you haven’t received any gifts today, have you? I’ve got a big one for you.” 

Before Seraphina could refuse, the box was opened. Its contents made the color drain from her face. 

It was the lingerie Thalia had worn the day before, along with a box of used condoms.
