Another silence fell, and Stanley’s voice came again. “How much are they offering? I’ll pay double Just keep them safe.”
The kidnapper sneered. “Mr. Frey, since we’ve taken them, there’s no way we’re backing out for money. You’d better think carefully about who you’ll choose. I’ll give you ten seconds.
“Ten, nine, eight…”
Stanley hesitated, not speaking.
Both were the most important women in his life, and he couldn’t make a choice.
He couldn’t gamble. If anything happened to either one, he would regret it for the rest of his life.
“Looks like I didn’t give you enough pressure yet.” The kidnappers brought Roxanne and Macy out. Both had bruises on their faces. Macy looked worse, being carried in by others.
“You actually dared to lay hands on them?” Stanley gritted his teeth.
He had made too many enemies in Brindley. At the moment, he couldn’t even guess who was pulling the strings, but both women were already hurt.
“Are you feeling heartbroken?” the kidnapper asked with a smile as he waved casually.
His men immediately slapped Roxanne and Macy several times, then poured a bucket of cold water on their faces.
Macy finally woke up. As soon as she saw Stanley, she shouted anxiously, “Stanley, don’t worry about me, save Roxanne first! She just gave birth and is still weak. Save her first!”
Stanley looked at Roxanne with cold eyes and made a decision. “Rox, the Frey family owes Macy too much. I can’t betray her just for you.
“Don’t worry. After I send Macy back, I’ll come right back for you!
“Release Macy,” he said coldly.
The kidnapper laughed. “I didn’t expect you to decide so quickly. So you’ve picked Ms. Shaw, huh? You’re a man of loyalty after all.
“Well, we’ll take the life of Mrs. Frey then.” They acted quickly, releasing Macy while taking Roxanne
away.
Stanley watched Roxanne being dragged away anxiously, but his hands were protecting Macy tightly. He’d been through too many kidnappings to trust a criminal’s word. Just because they said they’d let someone go didn’t mean they wouldn’t change their minds at the last second.
Roxanne had been taken away, so he couldn’t let Macy be taken, too.
Chapter 8
“Rox, wait for me. I’ll come back and save you!”
Roxanne heard his words but didn’t believe a single one. Even in the face of life and death, he had chosen someone else. Luckily, when she realized she and Macy had both been kidnapped, she had already mentally prepared herself.
She’d been hurt so deeply that she felt nothing at all this time.
Blindfolded, she was slapped several times before being thrown into the car.
The kidnappers thought she was powerless to resist and finally relaxed completely.
“That scared me. That’s Stanley Frey over there. Can you believe we actually kidnapped his woman…
“Aren’t we fine? Ms. Shaw was right. As long as she’s around, Stanley’s usually sharp mind goes off track.”
“Speed up. Ms. Shaw asked us to take her out to the open sea and deal with her quickly. The longer it drags, the more complications. The sooner we finish, the sooner we get paid.”
“This woman’s unlucky. She just had a baby, and her husband doesn’t even care. Tsk tsk.”
“Keep your mouth shut. If Ms. Shaw finds out we’re talking behind her back, we might not live to spend this money.”
For a while, silence fell. Roxanne wasn’t surprised at all as she listened to their conversation.
It was so like Macy.
Thinking of the open sea, she felt hopeless. “Timothy, I might never see you again.”
She closed her eyes, waiting for death.
Suddenly, the car crashed loudly, rattling violently before stopping.
The driver cursed and got out, then everything went silent.
The trunk was opened.
Roxanne struggled to open her eyes and saw who had come. Tears streamed down her face uncontrollably. “Timothy, you’re finally here.”
