Chapter

Stanley’s furious voice came from outside the ward. He rushed to Macy’s side, scooping her up in his arms, his eyes full of worry and panic

Macy, are you okay? I promised Oliver I’d protect you. You can’t get hurt!”

Macy shook her head, her face full of grievance. Stanley, I just wanted the baby to have some breast milk. The baby kept crying and refused the bottle. I didn’t know what else to do

I didn’t expect Roxanne to be so heartless as to wean him already. She shoved me, took my baby, and saidand said“.

Her voice broke as she buried her head against Stanley’s chest, sobbing

Stanley lifted his sharp gaze to Roxanne. Said what? Go on, say it. I’ll protect you.”

Macy stammered for a long while before finally blurting out the whole thing, She said she’d rather see the baby fall to his death than let me raise him. Stanley, it’s my fault. I wasn’t able to give Oliver

child

It’s my fault I let Roxanne take the baby away from me, but I never thought she could be this cruel. Even a wolf wouldn’t hurt its own child. Roxanne, he’s your child, the one you carried for ten months. How could you even think of letting him die?”

Stanley stared at Roxanne on the ground in disbelief

Yes, this was her nature. If she couldn’t have something, she’d destroy it

He was rendered speechless

He set Macy gently to the side before striding over to Roxanne. Ignoring the baby’s cries, he ripped him from her arms

Roxanne’s hands dropped limply at her sides. He had dislocated them just to take her baby away

It’s far from over

Towering over her, his voice was cold. Apologize to Macy and the baby!”

Why should I?Roxanne’s broken voice rasped out

He froze when he heard it. He lowered his head to get a clear look at her, and was suddenly at a loss

for words

She was drenched in blood, the mess spreading from her Csection incision. It was a sight that was gutwrenching

For a moment, he felt a pang in his chest. He sighed, crouched down, and looked her in the eye. Macy and the baby were fine in the next room, and now with you, they’re both hurt. How can I not suspect you

Chapter

Rox, you just gave birth, and your hormones are crashing. I’m not going to hold this against you. Apologize, and I’ll get the nurse to tend to your wound.”

Roxanne forced a tearstreaked smile. Stanley, you’re my husband. Are you really telling me to apologize without even knowing the truth

And what if I don’t?”

His face fell. He shot to his feet and ordered a few people to guard the door. Are you not going to apologize? Then you won’t get anyone to treat you until you come to your senses.”

He expected her to give in like she always did

After all, this wasn’t the first time something like this had happened. Every time, she acted like the world had wronged her, yet in the end, she always ended up apologizing obediently. What happened this time was worse, but since she’d just had the baby, he chose to give her a way out

Off to the side, Macy, now settled down, shot Roxanne a smug little look through the doorway

Roxanne simply closed her eyes and lay back down on the floor. She wasn’t going to apologize, but she no longer had the strength to fight them either

Her body hurt too much. Her wound was splitting open, the veins torn from the IV lines, and her heart was already crushed to dust

Stanley, will you stay with me and the baby tonight? I really don’t feel safe leaving the baby with the caretaker. After all, she’s just an outsider. Could you stay with us instead

Really? Butwon’t Roxanne be mad at you and me sleeping in the same room and in the same bed?”

Their voices faded further and further away

Roxanne thought bitterly, I probably won’t even last until Timothy comes to get me. By then, I’ll already be dead.”

Status: Ongoing

1. Promised forever

Roxanne Reid endures a brutal labor and finally delivers by C-section. Between pain and delirium she swears she will cherish this child for the rest of her life — the baby becomes the promise that will define her future.

2. The baby is gone

When she wakes from surgery, the baby is nowhere to be found. Panic spikes through her like a physical blow: all the relief and tenderness she expected after birth vanish the moment the cot is empty.

3. The betrayal revealed

Her husband Stanley Frey calmly informs her the baby has been given away — not to a charity, not to an adoption agency, but to Macy, Oliver’s fiancée. The news lands like betrayal: he made the decision without her consent.

4. Roxanne fights through pain to demand answers

Bruised and exhausted from two days of labor, Roxanne forces herself up and demands to know where their child is. Her voice trembles with pain and fury; this is a mother’s instinct colliding with the realization of being overruled.

5. Stanley’s cold justification

Stanley explains — almost mechanically — that the Frey family “owes” Macy because Oliver died, and giving her the baby is repayment or compensation. He frames it as kindness, family duty, and social obligation rather than theft.

6. Anger, disbelief, isolation

Roxanne is stunned and rage fills her. The rationalizations infuriate her: Macy “sacrificed” for the family, so she should have a child. Roxanne realizes she’s been isolated — even her husband now treats her like an obstacle, not a partner.

7. Flashback to their courtship

The chapter flashes back: Stanley once pursued Roxanne relentlessly for two years, learned her likes, and won her heart. She loved him enough to cut ties with her own family. Their marriage once seemed unbreakable — he had promised she was the one line he’d never cross.

8. The line crossed

Everything shifted after Oliver’s death and Macy’s arrival. The man who vowed constancy now crosses the line and makes decisions that betray Roxanne’s trust. What was once devotion turns into cold calculation under family pressure.

9. A desperate ultimatum

When Stanley prepares to rush to Macy’s side — “she’s a first-time mom, she needs help” — Roxanne, through pain, grabs his sleeve and threatens divorce if he doesn’t bring the baby back. It’s a raw, vulnerable demand born of love and righteous fury.

10. Threats, power, and a cliffhanger

Stanley sneers and seizes control of the phone; he belittles her concerns as romantic-novel dramatics and warns her not to push him. He reminds her, chillingly, that he’s capable of taking action against her. The chapter ends with Roxanne reeling from betrayal and the reader left on a tense cliff — will she fight him, or be crushed by the family machinery?
