Sapphire’s mind was blank, and she only snapped back to her senses when she heard Oliver’s name mentioned.
Back then, Oliver had been diagnosed with late–stage cancer, but the doctors said that with aggressive chemotherapy, there was a very strong chance he’d live for another two or three years.
However, after the surgery, he survived only one more month. And the reason for that was because of the bitch, Macy.
Sapphire grabbed Macy and slapped her fiercely. “Macy Shaw! How could you do that to Oliver? He loved you so much. Even on his deathbed, he was murmuring your name, begging us to watch over you. You heartless bitch! I’ll kill you!”
She continued to hit and kick Macy, but it wasn’t enough to quell the rage consuming her.
After a long while, when Macy was barely breathing, Stanley finally pulled Sapphire away. “Mom, killing her now would be too easy for her.”
He had Macy transferred to another facility, one known for its endless methods of torture. Even the most stubborn individuals would spill everything just to beg for death there. But he wasn’t going to let her die. He was going to let her live a life worse than death.
“Rox, I truly am sorry this time,” Stanley said, dropping to his knees before Roxanne.
After ten months of corporate warfare, his energy was depleted, and the decline of Frey Group had
weathered him considerably.
He had cast all his pride aside, only wanting to beg for Roxanne’s forgiveness.
Roxanne stepped back, brushing off her pant leg with disdain. “If apologies were enough, why would we need the law?”
As soon as the words fell from her lips, a squad of heavily armed officers stormed in, guns raised.
“Stanley Frey, you’re under suspicion for involvement in an organ trafficking case. Please come with us to the station for investigation.”
During her years at the Frey household, she had overheard whispers of their secret dealings. Now, she was proud to be the key to cracking the organ trafficking case,
Stanley’s eyes were bloodshot as he stared at her. “Rox, you sold me out? We’re husband and wife! After all our years together, you betrayed me?”
He struggled as the officers handcuffed him.
Roxanne smiled as she watched him being taken away. “Are we husband and wife? I suddenly remember that when I consulted a lawyer last year about filing for a divorce, they told me that my marital status was listed as single.

“I should thank your parents, Stanley. Thank goodness they didn’t allow you to truly marry me back then and that you obediently went along with it. Otherwise, just the thought of being married to you once even makes me sick. As for your wife, didn’t you just send her away?”
Stanley stumbled, and he turned around, looking heartbroken and in despair. He saw Roxanne smiling–a relieved and unburdened smile. It only made sense. From the beginning, she had said she was here to exact her revenge, and he had no one but himself to blame for all of this.
Roxanne handed Novex to a professional manager and returned to Airville with Timothy. It had been so many years since she’d seen her parents, and she immediately broke down crying.
“I’m sorry, Mom, Dad. I shouldn’t have been so stubborn.”
Her parents didn’t press the issue. They simply held the one–year–old child and had him call Roxanne “Mommy.” In that moment, she felt there was no greater happiness than being right next to her parents.
The next time she heard news about the Frey family, it was in a financial news report. Brindley’s largest casino operator had collapsed overnight.
When Louis regained consciousness after being sent to the ICU by his son, the first thing he heard was that Frey Group had been forcibly taken over. The shock caused another brain hemorrhage, and he fell unconscious, never to wake again.
Sapphire was placed under constant surveillance, but she only spent her days going to the
psychiatric facility, keeping an eye on Macy, and demanding that the doctors continue their torture
of her.
As for Stanley, he fell ill during his interrogation and was diagnosed with late–stage cancer. But even that couldn’t spare him from legal consequences. He would likely spend the rest of his life in pain and in prison.
The fall of a century–old family overnight was a deeply sobering sight.
Roxanne folded the newspaper into a small paper airplane and tossed it to her little boy. He grabbed it and threw himself into Roxanne’s arms, laughing joyfully.
She enjoyed simple, ordinary days like these. True family would always stand by her side.
She scooped her little boy up and playfully whined to her parents, “Mom, I’m craving some smoked ribs. Nothing beats the real barbecue here in Airville.”
Then, she turned to her son. “Sweetheart, let Mommy show you how to eat smoked ribs with the proper sauce,”
The Reid villa rang with laughter and joy. Maybe this was what a truly beautiful life looked like.
