Chapter 19
“Rox?” Stanley gasped, rubbing his eyes in disbelief.
The woman before him was wearing a sharp business suit, looking very different from the Roxanne he knew. He hesitated, almost afraid to approach her.
Roxanne turned around and looked at the man she couldn’t be more familiar with. She had thought it would hurt to see him again, but to her surprise, now that three months had passed, she felt nothing in her heart.
So that was what it felt like to stop loving someone.
“Rox, I’ve finally found you!”
Stanley abandoned all sense of decorum, pushing through the crowd, stumbling his way to Roxanne.
“I’ve already seen Macy’s true colors, and I’ve punished her harshly. She’s pregnant and stuck at home for the sake of the baby right now, but once the baby’s born, you can do whatever you want to torment her. As long as you forgive me, you can do as you please.”
Roxanne stared at Stanley, who was looking at her with deep affection in his eyes, but all she felt was a wave of disgust.
So he was able to suddenly see through Macy when she left? What about the years before? What about all the pain she had to suffer through?
She waved off the security guards who had come to restrain Stanley, then looked him in the eye seriously. “She’s pregnant? Whose baby is it?”
Stanley instantly turned deathly pale. “It’s not mine. You know I have a condition, and it’s only gotten worse,” he said through gritted teeth, admitting to the thing he’d always refused to acknowledge.
The condition threatened his dignity as a man, but if he didn’t clarify it now, Roxanne might carry this misunderstanding with her forever.
“Rox, I’ve even admitted to such a thing in public. Surely you’ll forgive me now, right?” he thought.
Yet, to his surprise, Roxanne merely swirled the wine glass in her hand and gave a cold laugh.
“Since when would your parents allow a child who didn’t carry the Frey bloodline to exist? You slept with her, didn’t you? Don’t pretend you’re so innocent, Stanley. You make me sick.”
Stanley stared at Roxanne, visibly hurt. He was well aware of his mistakes, and he had been searching for her for three months. How could she be so heartless toward him?
“Rox, I know I’ve really messed up. What will it take for you to forgive me? You can yell at me or hit me–anything! I’m begging you. I need you, I can’t live without you!”

He stepped forward, reaching out to grab her, wanting to kiss her and pull her into his arms. That was what he had always done whenever Roxanne was mad at him back then. And when she was breathless in his embrace, with her face flushed red, that always meant that she had forgiven him.
But before Stanley could even touch her, a kick sent him falling to the floor.
Timothy stared at the man who had tormented his sister with utter disgust. He wanted nothing more
than to beat him senseless.
“Who let him in here?” he demanded.
“Mr. Frey, for someone of your status to crash a private event and harass a female guest – are you completely disregarding your family’s reputation?” Timothy continued.
Furious, Stanley scrambled to his feet and stared straight at Timothy. “I came here for my wife. Who
the hell are you to interfere?”
Then, as if realizing something, his face twisted in heartbreak as he turned to Roxanne.
“Rox, is it because of him? Macy said you’ve hooked up with someone else, but I thought she was lying to me. So, it’s because of this man that you’re still not willing to come home, even after so long? It’s because of this man that you cheated on me and don’t want me anymore?”
He clenched his teeth as he glared at Timothy. “What’s so great about him? Is he richer than me? Or does he have a higher status? We’ve had a child together–can he compete with that?”
Roxanne replied calmly, “His name is Timothy Reid. And in my heart, you could never measure up to
him.”
“Reid?”
This only made Stanley more furious. He recalled hearing that the CEO of Novex was a “Reid,” so this
must be him.
No wonder Novex had been stealing business from the Freys. It was this Timothy who was deliberately going after them.
“You’re not only stealing my business but going after my woman, too? Let me make this clear–the Freys and Novex Technologies are now enemies! You’ve sure got some nerve, stealing business from me. I’ll show you who’s the king of Brindley!”
With that, Stanley stepped forward, intending to take Roxanne with him, but she forcefully slapped his hand away,
“Mr. Frey, let me reintroduce myself. I’m the CEO of Novex Technologies, Roxanne Reid,” Roxanne said, raising her wine glass with a raised eyebrow.
“I accept your declaration of war against Novex carlier. I hope Frey Group won’t disappoint,” she added.
