Chapter 18
Stanley glanced at the results in her hand, took another sip of his drink, and let out a cold scoff before promptly ignoring her.
Sapphire, however, couldn’t stand to ignore her youngest daughter–in–law, so she took the document from her and read it carefully.
“I didn’t think I’d become pregnant with Stanley’s child so quickly. Louis, Sapphire, once the baby is born, you won’t have to be sad anymore. I’ll raise the baby right and teach him to be good to you both. He is Stanley’s child… and Oliver’s too,” Macy said, growing more excited as she spoke.
But Louis and Sapphire’s reactions weren’t what she expected. They didn’t seem thrilled, and instead, they appeared indescribably indifferent. What was going on?
Macy stopped talking and sidled over to Sapphire affectionately. “Why aren’t you happy, Sapphire?”
Sapphire pushed her away, her tone tinged with suspicion. “Macy, is the baby really Stanley’s? Is this from the last time you two were together?”
Macy nodded shyly. “Stanley was amazing… We did it several times. And I get pregnant easily, so getting pregnant in one go isn’t impossible, much less so many times.”
Louis hurled his phone at Macy’s head. “Take a look for yourself. We’ve never doubted you or looked into you before. I even protected you when Stanley wanted to interrogate you. Haven’t we Freys treated you well? When have we ever done anything to wrong you?”
Blood trickled down Macy’s head from where the phone hit, but the pain coming from it was nothing compared to the terror she felt hearing Louis‘ words.
She hadn’t done anything wrong, had she? Or… had they found out about her sleeping with another man? No, that was impossible.
She’d secretly done the same thing repeatedly when Oliver was still alive, and she’d never been caught. And the Frey household was in complete disarray right now, so how could they possibly have found out? Were they bluffing her instead?
Macy picked up the phone that had been thrown at her and looked at it closely. The more she read, the colder she felt.
No viable sperm? How could that be?
Her mind raced, “Louis, Sapphire, is there a mistake here? If Stanley really doesn’t have any viable sperm, how did Roxanne get pregnant? The hospital must have made a mistake in its tests. All the women in my family are highly fertile, so maybe the goddess of luck was just smiling down on me?”
Louis‘ eyes widened with rage. He raised his hand wanting to strike Macy, but Stanley stopped him.
A chilling smile appeared on his face. “She makes a good point. What if she really did get pregnant that day?”

Louis glanced at Stanley suspiciously.
Stanley tossed his bottle aside, walked over to Macy, and took the test results from her.
“Let her have the baby. And once it’s born, we’ll do a paternity test,” he said.
Macy felt a twinge of fear toward Stanley when he behaved like this, but she absolutely couldn’t admit that the child wasn’t a Frey–not when she had come this far.
She thought to herself that once the child was born, she’d just find someone to forge the paternity test results. As long as she became the true matriarch of the Frey family, people would line up to
curry favor.
But things didn’t go as she planned.
Louis and Sapphire, who had once doted on her unconditionally, locked her up in the Frey residence and monitored her around the clock. Everything, from her clothes to her diet, was strictly controlled by designated staff, and the nutritional meals were so bland that they made her want to throw up.
Macy wanted fine dining, to go out clubbing, and to meet men. But the Frey residence was so heavily monitored right now that not even a mosquito could escape, much less her, and she was going
insane.
The one losing his mind more than Macy was Stanley.
Three whole months had passed without any news of Roxanne. He was constantly in a dark, depressed state, ready to explode at any moment.
He threw himself into work, grinding around the clock just to numb the pain while also keeping an eye on immigration records. He wanted to make sure he could find Roxanne the moment she reappeared, and he’d apologize to her.
Unfortunately, at a time like this, a company similar to Frey Group’s tech subsidiary suddenly burst onto the market. While Stanley was busy looking for Roxanne, this company, called Novex Technologies, was rapidly expanding. They had even snatched up a significant portion of Frey Group’s businesses.
Daring to steal business from the Freys–a family with connections on both sides of the law–and on
Brindley soil no less, meant Novex truly wasn’t afraid.
According to rumors, Novex was backed by someone from Airville.
After returning to work, Stanley tried multiple times to contact the person in charge at Novex, wanting to propose a partnership, but he was repeatedly rejected.
In just three short months, Novex had snatched nearly 800 million dollars‘ worth of business from them. Even with his strategic prowess, Stanley couldn’t help but feel frustrated and desperate, wanting nothing more than to meet with the CEO of Novex.
Luckily, after much effort, he learned that the CEO would be attending a private gathering that day.

With a ruby necklace he had won at an auction, Stanley crashed the gathering without hesitation. But the moment he stepped into the room, he froze in place.
