Chapter 76 Pushing His Luck
Meanwhile, at Harborview Fire Department, the strong scent of disinfectant filled the medical room.
Julian stood shirtless, his muscular back exposed as the paramedic, Gary Woolridge, carefully applied
ointment over the angry, blistered burn.
His muscles, usually sleek and defined, were now taut with tension. Each line stood out sharply, and
sweat slid down his chiseled jaw.
Gary shook his head with a sigh. “Jules, you’re pushing your luck this time,” he said as he wrapped the
bandages.
“Second-degree burns over such a large area-if you’d come out a second later, you’d be needing a skin graft. You shouldn’t get it wet for the next few days, do no intense exercise, and take proper rest!”
Julian said nothing. Once Gary finished bandaging, he grabbed a black T-shirt and forced it over his
scorched back, wincing against the burning pain.
As soon as he stepped out, a group of firefighters waiting outside immediately surrounded him, concern
etched on every face.
“Captain Yarwood! What happened today? You almost killed yourself! We’ve been with you for so long and never seen you injured like this!” one shouted.
Julian ignored them, pulling his phone from his pocket. Two missed calls from unknown numbers.
Just as he was about to swipe them away, a young firefighter, Malcolm Newman, leaned in with curiosity.
“Captain Yarwood, you won’t believe this. A woman called our firehouse claiming she was your wife. Her
voice was all hoarse and croaky, and Carl just hung up, thinking it was a prank!”
Julian’s grip on the phone tightened abruptly. He spun around sharply, his cold gaze locking onto
Malcolm. “When did she call?”
“Just… a few minutes ago…” Malcolm stammered, shivering under Julian’s stare.
Julian didn’t say a word and strode toward the parking lot.
Crispin froze for a moment. Realizing who the woman was, he smacked the gossiping Malcolm on the
back of his head. “Are you out of your mind? His wife just came out of a fire and inhaled all that smoke-
of course, her voice is hoarse!
“Do you have any idea why the captain risked his life today? It was to save her, and you’re laughing?”
Malcolm turned pale. “I… I didn’t know… and I wasn’t the one who hung up the phone!”
Crispin ignored him and ran after Julian, shouting, “Captain Yarwood, you’re seriously injured! Let me drive you!”

Rosalie lay in the VIP room of Meridian Medical Center.
Richard handed her a new phone. “Ms. Ashford, the new phone and SIM card are all set up for you.”
She took it, her throat raw and scorched, so painful that she couldn’t even form a word.
Sensing her discomfort, Richard lowered his voice and began reporting, “The investigation shows the fire started from a short circuit in an electric vehicle charging station in the underground garage, which caused an explosion. The flames spread through the ventilation ducts and engulfed the building…”
He paused, lowering his voice even further. “In the end… three people died and 15 were injured.
“One of the deceased was Tabitha from our project team-the one who left last night’s dinner early, complaining of stomach pain.”
Rosalie’s eyes widened sharply. She lifted her gaze and asked, “What about the surveillance footage?”
Richard shook his head. “We checked. Both Heather and Tabitha returned to the office briefly before heading home. But whatever they did on that floor wasn’t recorded-the surveillance cameras were
broken.”
A chill crept slowly through Rosalie’s chest.
Her safe had been tampered with, and the office door had been locked from the outside. All of this
happened just after she had secured Vista Furnishings’ collaboration.
Someone didn’t want her to succeed. Someone might even have wanted her dead. She had no clue who
could be behind it.
In her previous life, none of this had ever happened, and now, she had no leads at all.
Her lips moved stiffly. “What about my safe?”
Richard’s face tightened. “The fire department said the entire floor of Vertex Tech was basically destroyed. Nothing remains. The building has now been declared unsafe and sealed off. No one is
allowed to enter.”
Rosalie clenched her hands. If anything inside the safe fell into the wrong hands…
She picked up the new phone, instinctively wanting to call Julian.
Just then, the hospital room door swung open. Julian’s tall, imposing figure stepped inside.
He wore a black T-shirt, the tight fabric tracing the bandages across his back. A captivating presence, sharp with the scent of disinfectant, instantly filled the room.
Even Abigail, who was sitting nearby, jumped to her feet in surprise.
