Chapter 75 I Am His Wife

1/2

Chapter 75 I Am His Wife

Rosalie closed her eyes. The thought of seeing Lucian and Camelia made the smoke she had inhaled

burn hotter in her lungs.

Thankfully, once they arrived at the hospital, Brigham had asked them to leave the room under the pretense of treatment.

When she woke again, she heard soft, low sobs. Her eyelashes trembled, and when she turned her head,

she saw Abigail’s eyes red and swollen.

Just a slight movement from Rosalie made Abigail grab her hand, her voice trembling. “Rosa, you’re

awake? How are you feeling? Does anything hurt?”

Rosalie tried to speak, but her throat burned as if cut with a knife.

“I… I’m fine,” she croaked, her voice hoarse and barely audible.

She instinctively glanced around the hospital room.

Abigail’s eyes flashed with anger as she said, “Those two were already kicked out! How dare they stay

here?”

Rosalie tugged at the corner of her mouth, forcing a weak smile. “Thanks… Mom.”

Abigail’s tears fell again. “Silly girl, there’s no need to thank me. It’s your birthday… How could such a disaster happen?

“I heard when the firefighters carried you out, your clothes were burnt to shreds. It’s much worse than last time. Thank goodness you’re okay… Thank goodness…”

The mention of the firefighters made Rosalie anxious. She asked, “Where’s my phone?”

Abigail looked around. “It’s not here. Did you leave it somewhere?”

Rosalie remembered -it must have been left in the office. Luckily, she had a good memory for numbers,

able to recall them after seeing them twice.

“Mom, can I use your phone for a moment?”

She took the phone and dialed the number from memory. The call went through, but no one answered.

Frowning, she tried again, but still nothing.

Rosalie furrowed her brows and searched online for Harborview Fire Department’s number. The phone rang twice before a young male voice answered, “Harborview Fire Department, how can I help you?”

“Hello, may I ask if a firefighter named Julian has returned yet?” she asked.

Carl Brewer replied, “Who’s this? Why are you asking about Captain Yarwood?”

Chapter 751 Am His Wife

Rosalie answered firmly, “I’m his wife.”

There was a pause on the other end, followed by a scoff. “Look, lady, if you’re going to lie, at least make it believable. Captain Yarwood is married, and we’ve all met his wife. Her voice is gentle and sweet, much

nicer than your raspy one.

“Besides, if you were really his wife, how could you not have Captain Yarwood’s personal number and end up calling the firehouse instead? Who would believe that?

“Consider this your warning-stop calling here. Blocking the line and delaying emergency responses is not something you can be responsible for!”

With a harsh click, the call was abruptly disconnected. Rosalie dialed again, only to hear the busy signal buzzing in her ear.

Rosalie couldn’t catch her breath and began coughing violently.

Abigail quickly helped her sit up, rubbing her back and handing her a glass of water. “Drink a little and take it slow. It’ll help.”

After Rosalie calmed her breathing, Abigail hesitated before asking, “Rosa, that guy you married… He’s really a firefighter?”

Rosalie sipped the water carefully, moistening her parched throat, and nodded slightly.

Abigail’s heart clenched, and tears welled up in her eyes again. “My silly girl, there are so many wealthy heirs in Claver lining up to marry you, and yet… you chose a firefighter?

Rosalie knew Abigail wasn’t belittling the profession-she was simply worried about the hardships Rosalie might face.

She put down the glass, gently held Abigail’s hand in return, and forced a reassuring smile. “Mom, don’t worry. I’m not being reckless. Marrying him was purely a coincidence.

“I no longer believe in love.”

After all, no matter how passionate a romance was, betrayal was still betrayal.

“I married him just to reclaim my inheritance. Once everything is settled, I’ll divorce him.”

Abigail’s heart ached as she listened to Rosalie, but she knew she couldn’t change her mind. Sighing, she stroked Rosalie’s hair and said worriedly, “I just fear you’re taking this lightly… but he might take it

seriously.”

Abigail couldn’t help but think that with a daughter as stunning as Rosalie, it was only natural for any man to easily fall for her.
