Chapter 47 Your Mouth’s Practically Watering

“It means that Rosalie’s utterly infatuated with Lucian!” Edmond said. “She doesn’t dare make a fuss,

because if she does, he won’t even spare her a shred of affection.”

Edmond grew increasingly agitated as he spoke. His tone was practically dripping with anguish.

“Why on earth would you insist on marrying a woman whose heart is occupied by another man? Isn’t that

akin to begging for misery? With your status, you could have any woman you want!” Edmond roared.

As his words fell, Julian suddenly reached out a hand. Startled, Edmond handed him the pack of

cigarettes.

Julian took one, placed it between his lips, but didn’t light it. With the cigarette in his mouth, his voice

came out low and muffled, yet crystal clear. “She’s just a victim.”

At that, Edmond’s eyes almost popped out of his head. “You’ve got to be kidding me, Julian. Did putting

out fires give you some kind of savior complex? Do you really think you could fall for a woman who’s

completely hung up on another man?”

Julian shot him a look so cold it could freeze hell over. “Once I marry, divorce won’t come easily.”

Edmond let out a scoff. “So, as long as she doesn’t make some unforgivable mistake-”

He stopped halfway, suddenly realizing something. Then, he smacked his forehead. “Damn! You’re right.

This marriage isn’t going to be easy to get out of!”

Frustrated, Edmond ran his hands through his hair. “Why didn’t you let me vet her for you first? I know all

the socialites and ladies of Claver better than you ever will.”

Julian pulled the cigarette from his lips and casually tucked it into Edmond’s chest pocket. “I’m heading

back,” he quietly said.

Hearing that, Edmond sighed. “Do you want me to tell the team? They’re all eager to meet the missus.”

Julian didn’t even turn his head. “There’s no need for that.”

The hospital room door swung open just as Rosalie was sitting up in bed, reviewing her thesis. At the

sound, she looked up and was immediately caught in the depth of his gaze.

Julian walked over, pulled out a chair, and sat down. He didn’t say a word-he just looked at her.

She grew increasingly uneasy under his unwavering stare and couldn’t help but turn around, presenting

her back to him. Then, the room fell into silence.

Julian reached for an apple from the fruit basket and began peeling it, slow and unhurried. Rosalie assumed he meant to hand it to her and reached out instinctively.

But before she could touch it, he bit straight into it. The crisp sound echoed through the quiet room.

Speechless, Rosalie froze.

He glanced at her. “Do you want some?” he asked.

“Not really,” Rosalie said.

Though she felt embarrassed, she forced a smile. But the truth was, she was starving.

Watching Julian eat so casually made her throat move twice, but she couldn’t bring herself to ask for one. A moment later, however, he held out a neatly peeled apple.

“Go on, eat. Your mouth’s practically watering.”

“My mouth is not watering!” Rosalie’s face burned, but she still accepted the apple and nibbled slowly.

She couldn’t quite put her finger on it, but ever since he returned, the way Julian looked at her felt… off.

His gaze was so intense it seemed capable of burning holes straight through her. The overwhelming pressure made it hard to breathe.

Unable to take it anymore, Rosalie finally said, “Um… Could you go to my apartment and bring me some

clothes? The password’s 0825.”

At that, Julian stood up. He nodded without a question and left.

The moment the door closed, Rosalie let out a sigh of relief and quickly called Ursula. “Ursie, can you come to the hospital and keep me company?”

Ursula’s teasing voice came through. “Isn’t Julian taking care of you? Newlyweds in their honeymoon

phase! How sweet!”

“Stop joking around. I really can’t stand being alone with a man for so long,” Rosalie said, sounding

almost desperate.

Ursula chuckled knowingly. “You’d better get used to it. He’s your husband, after all. You’ll need to have

kids with him someday!”

At that, Rosalie fumed. “Enough already! Are you coming or not? If not, we’re done being friends.”

Ursula burst out laughing. “Then, we’re done. I’m not about to play third wheel. Good luck, cousin-in-law. Do your best to win Julian over soon so we can toast to it!”

When the call ended, Rosalie was so frustrated that she wanted to throw her pillow at the wall. What a

terrible friend!

Fortunately, the doctor soon brought good news-she’d be discharged the next day. That night, Julian slept quietly on the companion bed.

He didn’t make a sound, and Rosalie found herself slowly growing used to his presence.

By the following morning, he went to handle the discharge papers while she stayed behind to change her

clothes. Forgetting to lock the door, she had just slipped off her top when the door clicked open and his tall figure stepped inside.
