Chapter 39 An Unapologetic Meat Lover
Julian kept reading Rosalie’s reference book. His legs were stretched out casually, and his towering figure nearly filled up her small living room.
She was surprised by how focused he was. Then, she asked, almost on impulse, “Do you understand what a generative adversarial network is?”
Hearing that, Julian raised his head. His gaze was deep and emotionless.
“People in the department are developing drones for fire rescue operations.”
“Visual recognition and obstacle avoidance, or 3D mapping of fire scenes?” she asked instinctively.
“We’re doing the former for the time being. It’s too difficult to gather data for the latter.”
Julian lowered the book and stared at Rosalie with a deep, wild gaze. There was a pure curiosity for knowledge, and a barely noticeable sense of admiration in it.
For some reason, her heart skipped a beat.
Then, the pork was done. Rosalie put plates and utensils for two on the small dining table. As she stared at Julian, who sat across the table, she felt a little dazed.
This was the first time she had shared a meal with a man other than Lucian. It felt a little strange to her. Holding the fork, she felt this inexplicable nervousness in her heart.
Meanwhile, Julian noticed nothing about it. He stabbed the pork cutlet and took a bite out of it, its aroma filling the entire room. The way he ate was straightforward. Every bite he took was full of genuine satisfaction.
It was a different sight from when Lucian ate. He chewed slowly, looking refined and elegant to the
extreme.
Rosalie froze for a moment and gulped instinctively. At first, she wasn’t hungry. Now, however, she was craving food.
Julian noticed how she never took food from the dishes. Frowning, he asked, “You cooked these yourself. How are they not to your liking?”
Rosalie was stumped. After a while, she said softly, “I’m trying to lose some weight.”
“If you do, you’ll be too fragile. If you go out on a stormy day, a fierce wind would blow you away. Drop the act and treat yourself to some meat.”
Then, Julian placed a pork cutlet on Rosalie’s plate. He even made the point to press it down, looking completely justified as he did it.
The truth was, she didn’t like greasy food. Ever since she was a kid, she had preferred light food. She wasn’t exactly a fan of hearty food either. Back then, she picked up cooking because she wanted Lucian

to come home to a table of warm food.
As Rosalie looked at the pork cutlet on her plate, however, she hesitated a little. Refusing to eat it seemed too fussy. So, she had no choice but to grit her teeth and take a small bite out of it.
Julian saw it and immediately frowned. “That’s not how you eat it.”
He stabbed a pork cutlet with his fork and lifted his chin at Rosalie. “You have to swallow it in one go.
Don’t dawdle.”
Then, Julian popped the cutlet into his mouth, his cheeks bulging as he chewed it without a care.

Rosalie watched as he wolfed down the dishes. The way he ate was so appetizing that it actually made
her feel moved.
She imitated him and popped the rest of her cutlet into her mouth. Then, it struck her as pleasantly strange that it wasn’t as greasy as she had imagined. The fat melted in her mouth and turned into a rich
flavor.
Rosalie was stunned, and she glanced at her plate with a look of mild disbelief.
Julian gave her two more pieces of cutlet and said, “Get yourself more cutlets if you like them. Don’t be
shy.”
Rosalie was dumbfounded. He had really flipped the situation. She was the one who made the dishes,
and yet he acted like she was a guest.
For the first time, she ate way more meat than she normally would in a month. For a moment there, her stomach was really, really full. Eventually, she couldn’t eat it anymore.
Putting down her fork and knife, Rosalie said helplessly, “I’m stuffed. Don’t give me more, or I’m going to
throw up.”
Julian wasn’t fazed in the least. He made quick work of the remaining meat on the table, leaving the greens entirely untouched.
Rosalie couldn’t help but make fun of him. “You’re an unapologetic meat lover, aren’t you?”
Julian curled his lips into a grin. He lowered his voice, his tone suddenly carrying a hint of inexplicable
mischief.
‘I am.”
He leaned back lazily on his chair, his eyes locking onto hers as if trying to pull her in.
“Forget the veggies. I go for the juiciness that only meat can provide.”
