Chapter 35 He Met Someone He Truly Loved

The next morning, Rosalie went back to the campus. Before her thesis presentation, she arranged to have breakfast at the cafeteria with her roommates she hadn’t seen for a long time.

“Rosalie, what happened between you and Mr. Fenwick?” One of her roommates couldn’t hold back

anymore.

“Everyone on campus knew just how close you two are. So, why was the engagement called off so

suddenly?”

Rosalie stirred her porridge and spoke in a completely nonchalant tone.

“It’s just a marriage alliance our families arranged. But he met someone he truly loved. Naturally, I have to let him go.”

“What?” Rosalie’s roommate was displeased. “No way we’re buying that! You were clearly the person he

truly loved!”

“Exactly! We saw everything he did for you in all those years!”

Rosalie’s other roommates went along.

“You had a hard time adjusting when you first moved into the dorm. Mr. Fenwick was cold, distant, and dignified. Still, he kept going to our dorm just to give you medicine and food.”

“Plus, do you remember how he went to our dorm to tidy up your wardrobe and blankets? We had to pick our jaws up from the floor every time he visited!”

“Whenever you showed the slightest sign of discomfort, Mr. Fenwick acted as if it were the end of the

world.

“He carried you to the hospital without a second thought and stayed by your side all day long. I swear he didn’t even dare to leave your side long enough to use the restroom.”

“We all thought that he would be a simp for you.”

Rosalie didn’t say anything back. She merely curled her lips into a nonchalant grin as she listened to everything her roommates said.

Inside, she didn’t feel anything. She knew better than anyone just how deeply Lucian used to love her. His feelings for her were intense and genuine.

However, Lucian had fallen out of love with Rosalie, and that was the unadulterated truth, either. All that

tenderness and devotion were thrown out the window.

It brought to mind the cup of milk she left at the airport yesterday. The moment it went bad, it was destined to be trashed.

Rosalie simply didn’t have to hold onto the memories and refuse to move on. After all, she had a bright

future ahead of her.

“Alright. We’re done talking about Lucian.”

Rosalie raised her head, her eyes clear and bright.

“I’m going to focus on my thesis presentation. Once it’s over, how about we hang out at the karaoke place?”

“You got yourself a date!” Rosalie’s roommates responded merrily, instantly distracted.

After breakfast, all of them went to the classroom for the thesis presentation. A lot of students were already waiting in the hallway, and tension was quite thick in there.

The professors were sitting in the classroom, and the students couldn’t go inside until their names were

called.

Rosalie sat on the long bench in the hallway, quietly flipping through her materials. At some point, one of

her roommates exited the classroom.

“Geez. I think I almost had a heart attack!” She patted her chest, feeling the lingering fear in her heart.

“What happened?” somebody asked.

“One of the professors was a top graduate from MiraTech College. They invited her as a special examiner!

Rosalie’s roommate lowered her voice as she spoke, but she was clearly amazed.

“She’s gorgeous and elegant. I’m not exaggerating when I say that she’s like an elite lady who walked out

of a novel.

“That said, her questions were especially tricky and harsh. Super logical. Super sharp. I almost couldn’t handle them. I swear I was this close to passing out from sheer fear.”

MiraTech College, huh?

Camelia’s face immediately popped into Rosalie’s mind. Surely, something like that would never happen,

right?

“Rosalie Ashford, you’re up next.”

Rosalie got up, opened the door, and walked into the classroom with her thesis and a thumb drive in her hands. As she swept her glance over the long panel table, she instantly noticed Camelia.

Camelia was dressed in a crisp white suit, looking at her with a smile.

Rosalie frowned before she quickly composed herself. She walked over to the front and opened her

presentation slides.

“Hi, professors. My name is Rosalie Ashford. My thesis is titled, ‘A Decentralized Al Security Framework Based on Federated Learning and Differential Privacy.”

Rosalie’s voice was cool and steady. She spoke calmly as she talked about the intricacies of her

framework and algorithm with clarity.

5/3

Camelia had her head lowered as she flipped through the thesis, occasionally jotting down something on a piece of paper. Her expression was strictly professional as she did it.

When Rosalie finished her presentation, the professors fell silent. All of them wore a poorly concealed

look of amazement on their faces.

Her thesis advisor, lan Zeller, simply couldn’t believe what he had just heard.

“Ms. Ashford, d-did you really finish the thesis on your own?”

Rosalie met his gaze squarely and asked, “Professor Zeller, are there any problems with my thesis?”
