Chapter 21 Want Treble You With My Busin

Chapter 21 I Won’t Trouble You With My Business

Rosalie went back to her office to collect a few important things she couldn’t leave behind.

The moment she opened the door, her brows pulled tight.

Almost everything that had been hers was gone. Even the desk and chair had been swapped for a

different set.

The plants she had nursed for years, the pothos, the succulents, and that little jasmine pot, were all gone.

In their place sat a coffee machine, a yoga mat, and a stair stepper. A sweet, cloying diffuser scent filled the air instead of the clean wood scent she preferred.

It felt like Camelia had tried to scrub out every trace of Rosalie.

Rosalie pushed the discomfort down and steadied her voice. She was just about to ask where her things had been moved when she turned and saw Camelia, holding Lucian’s arm, walking straight toward her.

They quickened their pace as soon as they spotted her.

“Rosalie, since you’re still here, why don’t we grab lunch? My treat, to thank you for helping just now.”

“No,” Rosalie rejected coldly. “Where are my things? Where did they move them?”

Camelia glanced into the room and frowned as if she were puzzled. “I’m not sure. How about we eat first and then I’ll help you look after?”

“I asked where my things were. Was I not clear enough?” Rosalie held her gaze.

“Rosalie!” Lucian stepped in front of Camelia, his expression darkening. “Even if you’re upset about losing your position, that doesn’t give you the right to take it out on Melia!

“You’ve been checked out for six months, and your performance has dropped. This was coming! How do you still have the nerve to give her a hard time?”

Rosalie stared at him, stunned for a beat.

For whom had she run herself ragged these past months? And he had the gall to say she hadn’t been focused on the job? Anyone else could have said that to her, but not Lucian.

He seemed to hear his own words land too hard. He pressed his lips and turned to Camelia. “Melia, I brought you lunch. Go eat before you get hungry,”

Then, he looked back at Rosalie. “What are you looking for? I’ll help you find it.”

He figured it had to be the little trinkets he used to give her. She had always treasured them, even a sticky note with a line he had scribbled. Otherwise, she wouldn’t be this worked up.

Camelia tugged at his sleeve. “Lucian, I should go with you, too. Another pair of eyes might help.”

Lucian gently held her hand and said, “I just ordered your favorite milkshake and a mango crepe cake. They should arrive any minute. Stay and sign for them. Consider it a little celebration for your first day.”

He paused and looked around the room. “The office is a mess, so just make do for now. I’ll help you set it up when I get back.”

Rosalie listened to the warmth in his voice.

He used to talk to her like that. He had kept track of the small things she liked, brought her desserts when

she was down, and showed up to celebrate when she was happy.

She had believed she was the exception, that a man as aloof as he was wouldn’t soften for anyone else.

It turned out he could. He saved that warmth for Camelia. After all, she was the one at the center of his

heart.

What did that make Rosalie? Just a stand-in he had chosen before he figured himself out.

Once she put a name to it, the tightness in her chest eased a little.

“Mr. Fenwick, you should stay with Ms. Becker. She just started here, and being alone might not feel great,

Rosalie said, her tone light but pointed. “As for me, I won’t trouble you with my business.”

With that, she didn’t spare them another look. She turned and headed for the elevators.

Lucian stood there watching her go, a deep line cutting between his brows.
