Chapter 104 Your Ex Must Have Been Something Special Right
Rosalie instinctively lowered her gaze.
On her ten fingers were the perfectly manicured nails she had gotten done with Ursula.
The milky white base gleamed with tiny, glittering crystals. It was one of the trendiest styles
of the season.
She glanced up at Julian, slightly surprised. “It’s a manicure. How could you not know that?”
Julian’s frown deepened, and he let out a resigned sigh. “If you keep dipping your hands in cold water like that, the crystals will fall off in a few days. Reapplying them will only damage
your nails.”
Rosalie froze, taken aback.
Wasn’t this the kind of thing a man usually wouldn’t know?
In her previous life, Lucian had never paid attention to such details.
No matter how perfectly she painted her nails, she was still expected to cook for him.
She had once suggested that Penny could take over the cooking.
But Lucian had shrugged it off, saying, “I like the food you make. It’s just a manicure. If it chips, you can redo it.”
Eventually, Rosalie’s nails were filed down repeatedly until they became soft and thin. Even the slightest touch sent a sharp pain through her fingers.
As part of her pregnancy preparations, she stopped getting manicures altogether.
Rosalie watched Julian by the stove, an indescribable ache blossoming in her chest.
“Your ex must have been something special, right?” she blurted out.
How else could someone have taught a man to be this meticulous and considerate?
Nonetheless, the sharp crack of the egg hitting the pan drowned out her voice.
Failing to catch her words, Julian turned around. “What did you say?”
Rosalie offered a faint smile and shook her head. “It’s nothing.”
She motioned toward the dining table. “Why don’t you go ahead and cook? I’ll eat my pasta first. It’s getting soggy.
A few moments later, Julian returned from the kitchen with a plate of spaghetti carbonara.

After sitting down across from her, he ate quickly, finishing his meal in just a few minutes.
Rosalie instinctively reached for the dishes, but Julian’s hands were quicker. He stacked the plates and carried them off.
“I’ll take care of them,” he said.
Looking down at her manicure, Rosalie suddenly felt a pang of guilt.
If she had known it would trouble him so much, she wouldn’t have gotten her nails done in the first place.
Without turning around, Julian said, “You’re a lady of privilege; you shouldn’t be doing such menial tasks. Just hire a maid when you get the chance.”
Rosalie paused for a second before making her way to the kitchen doorway.
Looking at Julian’s broad back, she couldn’t help but ask, “Aren’t these things something a woman should know how to do?”
“Who said that? Did you make that rule?”
Rosalie’s words caught in her throat.
Julian was right.
She had always been the Ashford family’s heiress. Growing up, she was never asked to lift a finger around the house.
But when she fell for Lucian, she threw herself into learning how to cook and manage a
household.
After they married, she began to view it as her duty as a wife.
No one had ever told her she didn’t have to do any of it.
As Rosalie stared at Julian’s back, tears blurred her vision.
She smiled, her eyes sparkling with the idea. “Alright, I’ll hire a maid tomorrow.”
That way, she’d have more time for reading and studying.
“Okay,” Julian replied.
Rosalie watched him quietly, her gaze lingering on his broad back.
Amid the sound of rushing water, she felt the weight that had burdened her heart for seven years finally loosen and break free.
A surprising calmness settled in her heart.

When Julian finished washing the dishes and turned around, he was met with Rosalie’s bright,
sparkling eyes.
As her lips curved into a smile, a faint dimple appeared on her cheek. Under the light, her charm was almost intoxicating.
Julian’s Adam’s apple bobbed, and his eyes darkened.
He quickly looked away and strode toward the fridge. “Do you have any cold water?”
Rosalie froze, a little embarrassed. “I don’t usually drink cold water.”
“I’ll use the restroom for a moment.”
With those words, Julian hurried off.
Rosalie watched his back with suspicion. Suddenly, a thought crossed her mind, and her expression shifted to one of disbelief.
She raised her hand and lightly brushed her cheek.
All she had done was flash a smile.
Why was he reacting like this?
