Chapter 2
The man had a perfectly sculpted face, and he seemed to look at Shea with stars in his eyes.
Staring at the man who had suddenly appeared, Shea was momentarily dazed and lost in thought.
Meanwhile, the guests erupted into even louder chatter.
“Who’s that guy?”
“No idea, but it looks like he’s from the groom’s side.”
“He’s probably not on good terms with the groom. Otherwise, why would he step into this mess?”
“This is the most dramatic wedding I’ve ever seen!”
Shea snapped back to reality. She had never seen this man before and didn’t know him at all.
“Sir, are you serious about what you said?” she asked, watching him closely.
The man met her gaze with a calm but intense gaze. “I’m Hansen Grant, and I never joke around.”
Hansen Grant. That was quite a pleasant name.
But Lance and Hansen both had the same last name.
Shea asked, “What’s your relationship with Lance?”
Hansen glanced at her before replying lazily, “I guess you could say that I’m an older relative.”
An older relative?
So, if she married him, wouldn’t that make her above Lance in the family pecking order?
Shea fought to steady her racing heartbeat and lifted her gown as she stepped down from the
stage.
The next moment, she stood before Hansen. “Congratulations. From this moment on, you are my
husband!”
Hansen turned his head slightly to glance at Shea. Then, he reached out and held her hand in his. ” Yes, it’s my honor.”
His hand was large and warm, giving her a sense of security when it wrapped around hers.
Shea was a little shocked. This man did seem like a decent person.
Had she struck gold?
But now wasn’t the time to get distracted. Shea steadied herself and said, “Since I’m married now, from this day on, I have nothing to do with the Carrington family.”
Her words sent a wave of shock through the crowd.
Was Shea insane? Even if she wasn’t their biological daughter, the Carrington family had still raised her all these years.
Without the Carrington family, she’d just be an ordinary woman without any background at all. Anyone else would be trying to stay in their good graces, but here she was, cutting off all ties. Listening to the whispers around her, Shea felt her palms growing slick with sweat.
She had always been a well-behaved, obedient daughter. If she could, she would have stayed that way forever.
But everything changed when Aria returned.
The parents who once adored her no longer cared about her, and the boyfriend who once loved her had slowly drifted away.
And now, for Aria’s sake, he didn’t even show up at their wedding.
Yes, Shea knew that Aria had suffered all these years, but what exactly had Shea done wrong?
Ever since the Carringtons learned that Shea and Aria had been switched at birth, Shea had given everything good she had to Aria.
Yet, Aria repeatedly played the victim and framed her.
Aria’s schemes were always clumsy, and anyone with eyes could see that she was faking it. Yet, Justin and Suzanne believed every word.
They thought Shea was jealous and narrow-minded, wanting to drive Aria out.
But Shea had never thought that way.
She had looked forward to this wedding for so long, but it turned into a complete joke.
She was utterly exhausted.
She didn’t want to keep being disappointed again and again, nor did she want to be tied to the Carrington family anymore.
“Do you regret it?” A deep, magnetic voice suddenly murmured by her ear.
Shea’s ears flushed red.
She turned her head in surprise, and her lips brushed against Hansen’s cheek.
Her face turned rosy.
Why did he suddenly lean in so close?
However, Hansen’s expression remained calm and composed, as if nothing had happened.
“I won’t regret it!” Shea said, clearing her throat before quickly taking his hand and leading him back to the stage.
As the guests watched on, she took out the wedding rings meant for the bride and groom.
Then, without waiting for the officiant to speak, she slipped the ring onto her own finger before placing the groom’s ring on Hansen’s hand.
“The wedding is done! Everyone, please enjoy your meal!” she announced.
She ignored the reactions from the crowd as she grabbed Hansen’s hand and walked out.
As Hansen let her pull him along, a faint smile curved at the corner of his lips. It was so subtle it was almost imperceptible.
Just as the two of them left, Lance’s parents finally arrived.
They were once happy with Shea as a daughter-in-law. But once they found out she wasn’t biologically a part of the Carrington family, they couldn’t stand the sight of her anymore.
They had thought she was nobility, only for her to end up being a fake.
Still, the marriage had been arranged long ago, and calling it off would have made the Grant family look superficial.
But when they entered, they saw Shea walking out hand in hand with another man.
Cambry Grant, Lance’s father, rubbed his eyes. “Hey, that man Shea’s holding onto. Doesn’t he look like that president?”
“You must be mistaken. Their butler wouldn’t even look at the invitation we sent, let alone him!” Lance’s mother, Daisy Cooley replied.
She scoffed. “That Shea’s just grabbing another man’s hand in front of everyone. She’s embarrassing Lance!”
Naturally, Daisy knew that Lance wasn’t at the wedding, but so what?
Shea should be happy enough that Lance was still willing to marry her, a fake heiress.
Yet, she dared to fool around with another man. How shameless.
