Florentino added Courtney to the executive management group chat the day she joined the Burnham Group. 

But Sandria never had this privilege. 

After asking around, she finally knew Courtney’s number and immediately sent over the hotel’s address and room number. 

Then she blocked Florentino’s number, tossed her phone aside, and collapsed into bed, bursting into laughter. 

Tears, however, kept streaming down her face. 

Just then, someone knocked on the door. 

Assuming it was another delivery guy, she hastily wiped her face and walked over to open the door barefoot. 

To her surprise, it was Fulbert. 

His gaze fell upon the loose collar of her bathrobe. 

She immediately pulled her robe tight, eyeing him warily. 

“I told you I’m interested in you. Don’t you think it’s a bit unclassy, keeping pestering me like this?” 

As he raised his hand, she noticed an exquisite wooden food container he was holding and was stunned. 

“What’s this?” 

He handed it over. 

“You didn’t eat anything at the banquet. Takeout isn’t good for you.” 

She was totally puzzled. What was he up to? 

He knocked on her door in the middle of the night just to bring her food? 

He pointed to the door of the apartment across the hallway, as if knowing what she was thinking. 

“I live there.” 

She was surprised. Was this why she had bumped into him last night? 

Still, she had no intention of continuing the conversation. 

She took the container and decisively slammed the door shut. 

She’d accept the food, but nothing more.

Chapter 9 

Early the next morning, she arrived at the office and started working on her resignation letter.

After yesterday, Courtney surely wouldn’t tolerate her here. She might as well take the initiative to leave before being kicked out. 

It was fine. Sooner or later, she’d reclaim everything. 

After printing the resignation letter out, she was about to go to the HR Department. Just then, the elevator doors opened, and Judith Burnham, Florentino’s mother, stepped out. Impeccably dressed, she carried a Chanel bag, and the oversized sunglasses covering most of her face amplified her commanding presence. 

Their eyes met. 

Judith snorted, “Come to my office.” 

Sandria pursed her lips. 

She had been with Florentino for three years, and only then did Judith find out about their relationship. 

Judith had always despised her, and she knew what this was about–to warn her not to do anything to ruin Florentino’s engagement with Courtney. 

After some thought, she stuffed the resignation letter into her pocket and followed Judith into the office. 

The Burnham Group was a family business. After Florentino took the helm, Judith seldom came here, but her office was retained. 

She cut to the chase the second Sandria stepped inside. 

“Tino’s getting married. Don’t tell anyone about your relationship with him, and stay out of his way. If you can do this, I assure you that you can keep your job here.” 

When saying this, she sat on the leather sofa while crossing her legs and taking off her sunglasses, the contempt and disdain in her eyes undisguised. 

“I know all about women like you. You don’t get to climb the social ladder–be smart and know your place. Self- awareness matters, you know. The only way to support your parasite parents and brother is to keep your job here. 

“You should be grateful to Tino. If not him, you would have ended up on the streets already. I admit you’re pretty, but other than your face, what else do you have? Be realistic.” 

Sandria wanted to laugh. 

She accepted reducing to a Z–list model for Florentino’s sake, yet here Judith was, asking her to be grateful. 

The truth was, the firewall patent–the Burnham Group’s golden goose–had been hers to begin with. She signed it over to Florentino royalty–free. Also, she was the one offering technical support for its ongoing upgrades and development over the years.
