Chapter56
“You were the one who spoke out of turn first. Sandy is Ashlan’s biological sister, and also my sister.”
After saying this, she turned to look at Sandria, her tone softening.
“Sandy, if you ever need anything, just come to me.”
The warning hidden in her last sentence was clear to everyone present.
She had just placed Sandria firmly under her own protection!
Those who had wanted to watch the drama or take advantage of the situation now quietly gave up on the idea.
Offending a newly returned Ms. Schroeder might still be salvageable.
But to offend both the Schroeder family and the Ritter family at the same time–in Glottenham, that would be social suicide.
Gracie’s face turned as pale as paper. She stood there like a clown abandoned by the whole world.
Sandria looked at Carolina, a wave of warmth passing through her heart.
She took Carolina’s hand.
“Carolina, thank you.”
“We’re family. No need to be so formal.”
Carolina patted the back of her hand, leaned in close, and whispered in a voice only the two of them could
“But as you saw today, high society is even more complicated than you think. This is just the beginning. In the future, if there are things I can’t take care of, you must be extra careful yourself.”
Sandria nodded.
This future sister–in–law was even more perceptive than she had imagined.
The banquet soon came to an end.
As evening fell, Sandria simply went upstairs to keep Bryant company.
After resting for a while, Bryant felt much better and even spoke up first.
“Good child, come back to Glottenham with Grandpa. Your room at the old house has already been prepared. I want to spend more time with you.”
A warmth filled Sandria’s heart–this was a kind of familial affection she had never experienced before.

But she still smiled and gently refused.
“Grandpa, I’m used to living outside, but I promise I’ll come back to the old house to see you every week, okay?”
Bryant sighed, knowing he couldn’t push her too hard.
“Alright, whatever you say.”
He turned to Ashlan.
“Ashlan, pick out a good car for your sister, and assign more bodyguards to her. Nothing can go wrong again!”
“Understood, Grandpa.”
Ashlan agreed immediately and took Sandria to an underground garage.
A whole row of limited–edition luxury cars gleamed coldly and expensively under the lights.
“Sandy, pick whichever one you like.”
Ashlan’s tone was full of indulgence. “Bugatti or Pagani? Or maybe that new Rolls–Royce Phantom?” Sandria glanced around and finally pointed to the most inconspicuous black Audi A8 in the corner.
“Ash, that one. Something more low–key.‘
“How can that do! That’s too much of a compromise for you!”
Ashlan objected immediately.
“Ash, listen to me.”
Sandria insisted, feeling a bit dizzy from all the pampering.
Being spoiled like this wasn’t necessarily a good thing. If she drove a car worth tens of millions to discuss her small business deals, wouldn’t she scare people off?
In the end, Ashlan couldn’t win her over and had to hand her the keys, reminding her again.
“Drive slowly, and call me anytime if you need anything!”
“Okay.”
The black Audi A8 drove smoothly, but as it reached a secluded intersection and was about to turn-
Suddenly.
A dark figure darted out from the shadows at the roadside without warning, throwing itself right in the middle of the
street.
Sandria’s pupils contracted. She slammed on the brakes.
“Screeech-!”

The harsh sound of tires skidding pierced the silence of the night.
The car stopped just half a meter away from the person.

Looking closely, she realized it was Lola, sprawled on the ground in an extremely painful posture, wailing loudly.
“Mom was wrong, I really was wrong, I must have been out of my mind to say those awful things to you! Please don’t be mad at me, okay? I’ll apologize, and as long as you forgive me, I’ll do anything you want.”
