Courtney’s body suddenly trembled.
She lifted her head, her face as pale as paper, all color drained, her eyes filled with utter terror and despair.
The Chapman family.
The family she never wanted to mention again in her life.
The disgrace of her broken engagement was the deepest, dirtiest secret in her heart.
Sandria… how could she possibly know?
The guests, who had just recovered from the shocking revelation about the Schroeder family’s real and fake heiresses, were immediately intrigued by this new piece of gossip.
“The Chapman family? The Chapman family from South End?”
“Courtney was once engaged to the eldest son of the Chapman family? How come I’ve never heard of that?”
“She was dumped? There must be a story behind this!”
The buzz of gossip sounded like flies, buzzing in Florentino’s ears.
He suddenly turned his head, glaring fiercely at the collapsed Courtney.
For this woman, he had abandoned Sandria, offended the Schroeder family, and ruined his own company.
And it turned out, not only was she an adopted daughter of the Mosley family, but she also had a brokengagement in her past?
A burning sense of betrayal consumed all his reason.
“What is going on, Courtney? You have to explain this to me.”
Florentino roared at Courtney, all his former composure and self–control gone.
“Why exactly were you dumped by the Chapman family?”
Frightened by him, Courtney trembled all over, her tears flowing even more fiercely as she shook her head desperate- ly.
“I… I didn’t, Tino, don’t believe her, she’s lying! She’s slandering me!”
She screamed, defending herself incoherently.
“My brother… yes, my brother Gaston, he loves me the most, he’ll definitely help you!”

She clung to her brother’s name as if grasping at a lifeline.
But unfortunately, no one present cared.
Florentino looked at her panic–stricken, desperate attempts to call for help, and whatever feelings he had left for her vanished completely.
He found the Courtney before him utterly unfamiliar and repulsive.
“Liar!”
Florentino spat out the word through gritted teeth, unable to bear looking at her for another second.
He staggered to his feet, ignoring his own disheveled state, and turned to leave.
For the Burnham family, this banquet had ended in utter disgrace; staying any longer would only bring more shame.
“Tino!”
Seeing him about to leave, Courtney panicked completely and scrambled after him.
“Don’t go, listen to me,
Tino!”

Her shrill cries echoed through the vast banquet hall, but only drew even more scornful laughter from the ts.
The farce finally ended with the disgraceful exit of two clowns.
At this moment, the head of the Mosley family, Lance, had a face as purple as a pig’s liver, his forehead covered cold sweat.
He hurried over to Ashlan, bowing so low his waist was nearly at a right angle, his voice trembling with cosequio
ness.
“Mr. Schroeder, Ms. Schroeder, I… I was blind, I failed to teach my daughter properly!”
“That wretched child, I’ll cut ties with her as soon as I get back, I’ll take care of it right away. Please, the two of you, don’t let this kind of person ruin the harmony between our families.”
Ashlan shot him a cold glance.
That look made Lance’s knees tremble.
“Mr. Mosley, regarding the follow–up investment, the Schroeder Group will reassess.”
“My sister has just returned home and is still unfamiliar with many things. From now on, I will discuss all coopera- tion with the Schroeder Group with her.”
Boom!
Lance’s mind buzzed loudly.
The meaning of those words couldn’t be clearer.

The Schroeder family’s future investments would depend on Sandria’s mood.
Sandria was now the one who could decide the Mosley family’s fate,
Cold sweat instantly poured down Lance’s face.
Without thinking, he immediately turned around and, almost groveling, nodded and bowed to Sandria.
“Yes, Miss, you’re absolutely right, absolutely right.”
