Smug, Marcel grinned, letting his guard down. 

Just as he was about to go back to his workstation, she suddenly turned around, twisted the doorknob, and yanked the door open. 

What came into her view was beyond her wildest expectations. 

Florentino was leaning against the wide black office sofa with Courtney in his arms. 

Both were disheveled, tangling together as if wanting to melt into each other. 

Florentino’s tie was askew, the few undone shirt buttons revealing his toned chest. 

As for Courtney–her face, which always wore a harmless and innocent expression, was flushed with awkwardness. Her doe–like eyes were still glistening with unshed tears, and one of her spaghetti straps had slipped off her rounded shoulder, adding a touch of decadent allure to her innocent charm. 

They pulled apart from each other at once when they heard the huge sound of the door opening. 

A trace of panic and fury flashed across Florentino’s face. 

Meanwhile, Courtney hastily smoothed her crumpled skirt and tucked her loose curls behind her ears. 

Sandria wanted to laugh. 

This was Florentino’s so–called “arranged marriage” and his fiancee he had never “held hands with“. 

What a big liar. 

Had he been feeding her lies over these years? 

Her gaze swept over Florentino and Courtney before she walked toward his giant desk. 

With a mocking smile, she placed the resignation letter on it. 

“Sorry to interrupt you, Mr. Burnham. I just wanna know when you’re gonna approve my resignation.” 

Her voice was calm. 

However, it pierced the office’s clinging intimacy, making the atmosphere even weirder. 

Courtney had already composed herself. She stood up from the sofa and walked over to Sandria. 

Once again, Courtney’s delicate face was filled with guilt and regret. Her doe–like eyes reddened, and it seemed tears might stream down her cheeks in any second.

“Ms. Farley, did I… say something wrong at the mall that offended you? If so, I’m sorry. Please don’t be mad and don’t bring up resigning again. Things at work have already put Tino under a lot of stress. Could you … be more un- derstanding and stop piling more on his plate?” 

Her words were perfectly calculated–she was a textbook angelic bitch indeed. 

She painted herself as some kind–hearted, well–meaning peacemaker, trying to persuade Sandria to act in Florentino’s best interests. 

Meanwhile, she made Sandria look like an unreasonable, willful troublemaker stirring up drama. 

Luckily, Sandria had already seen Courtney’s true colors from their past encounters. Otherwise, she might have actu- ally bought Courtney’s act. 

Suddenly, Sandria smiled. 

“Ms. Mosley, don’t you know?” 

Saying this, she stepped forward and leaned over slightly. 

Her voice wasn’t exactly big, but everyone in the office could hear her clearly. 

“I’m Florentino’s ex–wife. We were together for eight years, but he insisted on keeping our relationship a secret the entire time. Not long ago, he dumped me. Are you sure you want me to stick around? That’s surprising. I figured I’d just be an eyesore to you.” 

Courtney’s gaze deepened instantly. 

Staring at Courtney’s expression, Sandria curved her lips. 

Suddenly, Courtney pursed her lips and staggered back a few times, tears streaming down her cheeks. She looked so pitiful, enough to break any man’s heart. “Tino… Is that true?” 

Florentino strode forward and held her in his arms protectively, his eyes filled with distress. Then he turned to look at Sandria, his expression darkening. “Sandria, enough is enough! You’re getting out of line!” 

Sandria couldn’t help but sneer. He was the one who withheld her resignation, and he was practically begging her to patch things up with him yesterday. And now, here he was, accusing her. 

Sobbing, Courtney raised her head and tugged at Florentino’s sleeve, her eyes red. “Tino, don’t blame Ms. Farley. I’m sure she’s heartbroken. Why don’t you … sign her resignation and let her go? I hate to see her feeling worse when she sees us together.”
