Chapter 7

The second Xavier finished talking, several guys in black suits walked in.

Sophie scrambled backwards on the floor, absolutely terrified.

“Xavier, what the hell are you doing? You said you cared about me! What are you gonna do!”

Xavier laughed like it was the sickest joke he’d ever heard.

“Cared about you? Jesus, I was such a pathetic, blind piece of shit.”

“Take her to the basement. Those animals from that night? Let them finish the job.”

Within minutes, horrific screams were echoing through the Morrison house.

Meanwhile, after two peaceful weeks, my phone started going crazy with Xavier’s messages.

[toni where r u?? let me come see u. just hear me out please]

[toni i fucked up so bad. i know im a piece of shit. answer ur phone please??]

[toni grandpa told me ur marrying lucas WHY?? thought u loved me?? i took care of sophie – swear ill never hurt u again]

[toni please just say something to me]

The messages kept flooding in. I got so annoyed I blocked his number completely.

Finally thought I’d have some peace and quiet.

But the next morning when I got back from my run, there was this familiar figure lurking outside Lucas’s

gate.

The second he saw me, he came rushing over.

“Toni, I’m here to take you home.”

Xavier looked absolutely wrecked. His usually perfect hair was all over the place, eyes sunken in, jaw covered in scruff. Dude looked like he hadn’t slept in days.

I didn’t say a word, just turned to go inside.

Chapter 7

Xavier suddenly grabbed my wrist.

“Please, Toni… Just talk to me for like two seconds.”

I stopped.

“Xavier, we’ve got nothing to talk about.”

The fact that I actually responded clearly made him light up.

“Okay, then just listen. Toni, I dealt with Sophie.

I was such an idiot – didn’t know what real feelings were, couldn’t see what I had with you.

That’s all on me… Just give me one more shot.”

“Everything can go back to normal, I came here to bring you home.”

I stepped back and yanked my arm away.

“Home? Home to what exactly? So I can go back to chasing after you like some desperate puppy? Or maybe

catch you screwing Sophie again?”

Xavier flinched hard and started backtracking fast.

“No, that’s not… Toni, I know you can’t stand Sophie. She’s gone for good! I fucked up before, but things will be different now! Whatever you want, I’m in. You call the shots.”

I actually laughed out loud.

“Xavier, you seriously think I’m that stupid?”

“You think you’ve got me all figured out.

Well here’s the thing when Toni Sterling loved you, I loved you for real.

But now that I’m over you? I’m completely fucking over you.”

Xavier went pale as hell.

His mouth opened and closed but nothing came out.

Right then, someone grabbed my wrist and pulled me behind him, silently facing off with Xavier.

Seeing Lucas step in to protect me, my eyes got all watery.

Chapter?

I almost started crying.

Xavier lost it. He yelled at me.

“Is this why you won’t forgive me?!”

Xavier’s eyes were bloodshot.

I’d known him long enough to recognize he was about to completely lose his shit.

Ugh. I really didn’t want to deal with his drama anymore.

Grabbed Lucas’s hand to head inside.

But Xavier caught my arm.

“Toni! I’m talking to you! Is it because of HIM that you won’t come back with me?!”

“And you talked about love – guess your feelings were total bullshit! It’s been like what, a few days, and

you’re already with him…”

SLAP!

I slapped him hard across the face, cutting him off mid-sentence.

Red fingerprints immediately appeared on his cheek.

“Xavier Morrison! The only thing that’s bullshit here is YOU!”

Then I was done looking at him, but he blocked my path again.

This time his voice was actually shaking.

“Toni, you hit me, you yelled at me fine. But please, just come home with me.”

“I don’t care what happened between you two. I don’t care about any of it. Just come back with me, just

forgive me, please…”

This was the first time I’d ever seen Xavier cry.

I just stood there, totally shocked.

That’s when Lucas spoke up.

“Toni, let’s go back home.”
