The reason Cole was taken away so quickly was that besides my in–laws, another person had been abandoned in the wilderness. 

Fortunately, that innocent man, Walter Bennett, had ample experience and even carried a satellite phone, which allowed him to contact the rescue team. 

Mr. Bennett’s parents, upon learning what happened, immediately scraped together a hundred thousand dollars and had him rescued. However, by the time help arrived, all three were nearly 

desiccated by the sun.

Mr. Bennett had ended up there because his car broke down. Stranded, he had no choice but to hitch a ride and was thrown into the wilderness along with my in–laws by the driver. 

The tour guide, the driver, and Cole were all part of a group chat. 

Everything was discussed clearly in that chat: from how to make two people disappear without a trace, to confirming they had picked up the targets, the specific day they would enter the wilderness, what to do after the people died, and even the pricing. 

Mr. Bennett was in relatively good health. With hospital treatment, he managed to pull through. 

As for my in–laws, they weren’t so fortunate. They were already in poor health, and being elderly, the shock and ordeal proved too much. Although rushed to the hospital, they could not be saved and both passed away. 

The police officer who briefed me on the case looked at me with deep sympathy. 

Because the chat records made it abundantly clear that the targets Cole intended to have killed were 

my parents.

His whole being seemed shattered by the report. He kept muttering, “Impossible… it can’t be… How 

could it be my parents who died… How could there be no child…”
