Chapter 39
May was busy working when her phone vibrated, she had to pause what she was doing and picked up her phone that was lying, on the table, she saw it was Alicia calling her, she bent her head a little and answered the call.
After a brief moment of speaking to her, she finally agreed to what Alicia asked her to do.
She dropped her phone on the table and checked her wrist watch, it’s only about half an hour before Diane closes from school, Alicia said she won’t be able to pick her up, so doing that is up to May.
“I better get this done quickly.” She said to herself and hurriedly began typing on her computer.
Night time….
By the time Alicia returned home, it was so so late, she literally returned from work by 12am, and it’s all because she had to do a fan meeting and also have a meeting with some clients that wants to work with her.
She took her spare key from her purse and opened the door, there was no sign of May anywhere in the living room and Alicia could only smile, she didn’t expect her to be up by this time waiting for her as she must also be tired from work.
She went upstairs to Diane’s room first, she got beside her on her bed and spent quite sometime staring at her sleeping angel, the longer she stared at a sleeping Diane, her heart could only swell with so much pride and happiness, her daughter looks so peaceful in her sleep. She vowed to never let anything or anyone ever hurt her child for as long as she lives, she’ll protect her with her life and everything she has, after all, she’s her source of joy and strength, the reason she works so hard everyday just to provide a better life for her child.
She leaned a bit closer to Diane and placed a kiss on her forehead. “I love you so much baby.” She whispered.
She gently got out of the bed, grabbed her purse and quietly left her room, the next place she went to was May’s room, she just wanted to check up on her and be sure that she’s okay.
She got to May’s room and quietly opened the door, being careful not to make much noise and disturb her sleep, she stood at the doorway and stared at May for sometime, a pleasant smile plastered on her face.
“Goodnight May.” She whispered, then she quietly closed her door before heading to her room.
No matter how tired she was, she still managed to take a shower before going to bed, and she fell asleep the moment her head touched the pillow.

Mike was just leaving Adams home, despite the fact that Adams persuaded him to stay, he insisted on going home, not minding how late it was already, according to him, what could possibly happen?
While driving home, it took a while for him to notice the car behind him, he wasn’t suspicious at first, not until the same car followed him no matter what turn he took. When Mike finally noticed he was being followed, he increased his driving speed, trying his best to outrun the car, but they also didn’t relent and kept on following him.
Mike couldn’t help but panic as the incident before flashed through his mind, he wondered if it was the same people coming to attack him again, he truly didn’t think he was up for a fight tonight, and the only he could do at that moment was to try and make his way to the station, obviously whoever it was that was following him wouldn’t dare follow him to the station.
After coming to that conclusion, Mike wasted no time in driving towards the direction of the station, he was driving really fast, and one part of him was scared that he might actually get into an accident with his current speed, but he couldn’t care less, all that matters at this point is him getting away from the car behind him.
Thankfully, he made his way to the station. When he parked his car, he hurriedly got out and ran into the station, only when he

was safely inside did he turn to check if the car was still there and it was right outside. Mike’s heart was pounding so hard in his chest that he feared his heart might literally burst open from his chest, he stood staring at the car for a while, until whoever it was that was in there finally decides to drive away.
Mike was so lost staring at the car even after it drove off that he didn’t even realize the officer talking to him until the man tapped his shoulder lightly, that brought him back to reality.
“Are you alright Sir? You look pale, is anything wrong?” The officer asked.
“…I…” Mike trailed as he didn’t even know where to start.
The officer couldn’t help but notice how unsettled he was. “Why don’t you come with me first, you can take your time to relax and tell me what’s wrong okay?”
Mike sighed deeply, then he nodded. “Okay officer.” He replied, then he went with the officer.
The officer was patient enough to wait for Mike to get himself together, only when he was assured that Mike was okay did he begin with the questioning.
Mike told him about the previous incident and then the car that was following him today.
The officer listened with rapt attention until Mike was done speaking. “We’ll assign someone to be with you for the meantime and act as your bodyguard as we try to get whoever it is that’s following you.”
“Since we don’t know who could possibly be behind the attack, you can’t be alone for now until we catch these people and bring them in for questioning.”
Mike nodded in reply. “Thank you so much Officer, I err…I have one request though.”
“Please, ask away.” The officer urge.
“Is it okay to spend the night there, I mean those people could literally still be around and I can’t head back home alone.”
“Of course Mr Mike, that’s not an issue if you don’t mind staying in a station, by tomorrow I’ll assign someone to be with you 24 /7, and you’re also free to get yourself a body guard.”
“Of course, thank you so much Officer.” Mike replied, feeling so relieved.
The thought of calling Adams crossed his mind, but after what happened today, he wouldn’t want to disturb his sleep.
“I’ll just tell him about this tomorrow.” He concluded.
