When Alicia and Diane arrived home, she helped Diane took a bath, while she was getting her ready for bed, Diane asked the question she wasn’t expecting, or maybe she was expecting her to ask but was still hoping she wouldn’t at the same time.
“Where’s my father Mommy? Do I have a father too?” Diane asked softly.
Alicia who was adjusting her nightwear froze when she asked her that question, she looked at her daughter’s beautiful innocent eyes, she knew a day like this would come, but didn’t expect it to come this soon, she remembered her answer to May when she asked her what she would do if Diane ever ask about her father, that answer still remains the same. Her father is dead!
She truly hates the fact that she’ll have to lie to her daughter for the very first time, but this lie is something she won’t regret because Diane doesn’t deserve a father like Adams, she doesn’t deserve to have a father so cruel like that man.
“You don’t have a father honey, your father is dead.” She replied bluntly, her face held no expression or emotion.
“Dead?” Diane repeated, tears started welling up in her eyes.
Alicia nodded. “Yes honey, he’s dead.” She replied, and that was the final blow as Diane finally let her tears flow freely.
Seeing her daughter cry broke her heart so much, but Alicia consoled herself by telling herself that Diane will eventually get over this. She wrapped her hands around her daughter and pulled her to herself.
Diane literally cried her eyes out, it never occured to her to ask about her father until this day when she got bullied, deep down she would always feel so sad when she sees the other kids with both their parents, but she never once complained to her mother about it or talk about it to her mother because she feels her mother works hard enough for the both of them and she didn’t have the courage to ask until today.
Alicia did her best to put Diane at ease but it wasn’t easy, it took quite a while for her to get Diane to stop crying and finally put
her to sleep.
When Diane finally went to sleep, Alicia heaved a deep breath, as she stared at her daughter, she couldn’t help but think about
one question.
Will she ever regret this? Telling her daughter that her father is dead when he’s still alive and well.
“No!” She shook her head. “I’m never going to regret this, this is for her own good, when she’s old enough, she’s going to realize I did this for her, I did what was right. I won’t ever let her get hurt by Adams and his family the same way they hurt me, I’m going to protect her from them, from everything that threatens her happiness.”
She placed a kiss on Diane’s forehead, then she whispered. “This is the right thing to do, this is the right thing to do.”
Alicia slowly got off Diane’s bed, then she quietly left her room. When she got downstairs, that was when May returned from work.
Alicia smiled when she saw her, she definitely needs someone to talk to after what happened, and she’s only got May.
“Welcome back May, how are….” She trailed when she noticed the sad expression on her face.
Alicia rushed to May. “Are you okay? Did something happen at work?” She asked worriedly.
May managed to smile. “I’m fine, I’m just tired, a cold bath is what I really need right now.” May replied, but Alicia wasn’t very
convinced.
“You do look tired too, why don’t you go freshen up and I’ll bring you dinner and some cookies to cheer you up too.” She smiled.
“Thanks Alicia.” May said before going upstairs.
Alicia could literally tell something was up but she choose to give May a little breathing space first, she went to the kitchen and started making dinner.

Few minutes later…
May was coming out of the bathroom when she heard a knock on her door.
“Come in.” She said while drying her hair with her towel.
“Heyy…” Alicia said as she came in holding a tray containing the dinner the made and some cookies on another plate.
She set it down on the table beside May’s bed before sitting down on her bed.
Meanwhile, May was sitting in front of her mirror doing her skin care routine, but she could feel Alicia’s eyes on her like, she sharply turned around to face her. “Go on, spit it out already, don’t bury me with those witchy eyes of yours.” She rolled her eyes
at Alicia.
Alicia chuckled softly. “It’s nothing actually, just that I feel something is up with you and I would like you to share it with me.”
May narrowed her eyes. “How the hell do you know me so well.” She groaned. Alicia shrugged.
“So will you tell me what’s up with you?”
“Would you leave if I say no?”
“Never.” Alicia winked. “Just tell me already, I hate to see you worry or sad about anything, you have me to share everything with remember? And I promise to help in anyway I can.”
May applied a cream on her face before getting up, she then went to sit beside Alicia.
“It’s about Mike.”
Alicia frowned. “Mike? Like the Mike I know?” She asked. May nodded.
“What about him? Is he fine? Hope nothing’s wrong with him.” She panicked.
“Relax Alicia, he’s fine, it’s just what happened today.” May bit her bottom lip nervously.
“What happened today?” Alicia questioned softly.
She placed her hand on May’s shoulder to reassure her once more, after a few seconds, May finally explained all that happened
to her.
“I just can’t seem to get over my past no matter how hard I try Alicia, I do try so hard to bury those memories but it’s still there no matter what, it still hunts me, and I just…” She trailed, hot tears streamed down her cheeks.
“Oh May.” Alicia pulled her into a hug. “I understand you so well and it’s not your fault, you don’t have to be this hard on yourself, and I know Mike, he won’t take what happened to heart so there’s no need to worry about him, you don’t have to cry May, I hate it when you cry.” She hugged her a bit tighter.
“And you’re going to be okay, you’ve been so strong for so long and I’m proud of you May, you’re going to be okay, you’re the most strongest person I’ve seen May, you went through so much but look at you now, you shouldn’t let the past continue to hunt you, look at how far you’ve come, you should be proud of yourself instead girl, don’t let what happened stop you from moving forward with your life, you’re so far from all that’s happened now, and no one is ever going to be able to hurt you ever again.”
“I’m here for you May, and I’m going to be with you every step of way. You’ll be fine, I’m sure you’ll be fine.”
May hugged Alicia back and cried even more on her shoulders.
Alicia did her best to comfort her, she knew what May went through in the past, May told her everything, she thought she would have gotten over everything by now but, sadly, people take time to heal from things like that, but there’s no doubt that May will be fine, she wasn’t lieing when she told her that she’s the most strongest person she has seen, so she trusts and believe that May will finally get over her past and be able to move on.
